The next 48 hours are crucial. The government has just launched a consultation on guaranteed hours.
Sign this petition asking them to stand firm on their pledge to tackle insecure work and ban exploitative zero-hours contracts. https://t.co/74exoaCYR6 via @megaphoneuk
Kwasi Kwarteng says the welfare bill is “unsustainable”.
This from the man whose mini-budget sent markets into panic and mortgage bills through the roof.
Kevin Maguire points out that welfare spending is forecast at 10.6% of GDP, lower as a proportion than in much of Europe. And over half of it goes on pensioners.
But here is the part politicians rarely mention: millions of Universal Credit claimants are already in work.
Public finances are not simply supporting people without jobs. We are topping up low wages while companies such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s report billion-pound profits.
So spare us the lectures about Britain’s “welfare dependency”. The scandal is an economy where working people cannot afford to live on their wages, while profitable corporations expect the public purse to bridge the gap.

@BladeoftheS@FlashBlades I've written to my MP
Subject: Concern: Stigmatisation of Disabled People in Welfare Discourse and Request for Parliamentary Attention
Jeremy Vine an awful arrogant shit stirrer.
But this time he seems to have gone too far his post about the cost of disabled people was exactly the strategy the Nazis used.
Now there are calls for him to be fired.
If you think it’s time to end his hate. RT

@PrimroseViews@JulesBW58@BlondeKbf They ride the gravy train we only have a few MPs
that are honest and good.
It stinks of lies and corruption.
The independent body needs replaced .
@PaulMcG01699714@Danwhite1972 Yes the tories started it and labour carried on with it and made it worse.
How can disabled and sick people work,it all stinks there is no jobs to go to for people who can’t work.
I understand this labour policies very well.
First Past the Post can no longer deliver real mandates -only chaos. 60% of Brits want it scrapped.
Yet the Representation of the People Bill won’t even touch our voting system, which leaves millions unrepresented.
Tell Keir Starmer to change this.

A crypto investor just donated £9 million to the Reform Party. Right now, billionaires can pour unlimited money into our elections, effectively buying our democracy. Think that's wrong? Add your name to call for a cap on donations today: https://t.co/64EFp1HPbl via @38degrees
Our elections are at serious risk without an independent referee. Politicians should not be able to meddle with the running of elections. The government must restore the Electoral Commission’s independence, and the Elections Bill is their big chance. https://t.co/adXRlS4TFS
In the bleak mid-winter GP registrars may moan
Wes stood hard as iron, Kinnock like a stone
Jobs have fallen, Jobs no Jobs, Jobs no Jobs
In the bleak mid-winter not so long ago
@wesstreeting@SKinnock@NHSEngland@DHSCgovuk
@SCB1312@Dmdav1 People work on UC some doing 2 jobs they still live in poverty the rent they pay just to have a roof over their head is ridiculous.
All that gets added as benefits.these people can’t afford the basics to live a decent life.
Labour does not understand mental illness at all.
Labour is belittling anyone with a mental Illness.
Labour thinks employment will
Instantly cure any mental illness.
WRONG.
We don’t want job coaches we want a decent mental health service.
Work last, recovery FIRST.
