The Sudan Human Rights Defenders Coalition organised a three-day training workshop on digital security and safety for a number of Sudanese human rights defenders residing in Nairobi, Kenya. This workshop was part of the coalition's efforts to build the capacity of human rights defenders.
The workshop addressed the challenges confronting human rights defenders in Kenya and their implications for security and safety. It also covered strategies for creating security plans to handle potential risks. Additionally, the session examined international and regional protection mechanisms for human rights defenders and guidance on how to access them.

Day 5 of #ACHPR85 kicked off with a panel discussion presenting the report of the Joint Fact Finding Mission of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the human rights situation in Sudan. The session featured a brief presentation of the Mission’s report, providing an overview of the general human rights situation in the context of the ongoing conflict. It included an analysis of violations committed against women and girls, minorities, and marginalised populations, while also shedding light on the plight of migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the Sudanese conflict.

As part of the discussion, @Winiomer , Coordinator, Framework Mechanism for Conflict Transformation, and a member of our delegation at this public session, delivered an intervention welcoming the report. She noted that although it paints a very sombre picture of the situation in Sudan, it provides critical evidence supporting claims raised by Sudanese civil society since the first weeks of the war.

Wini further emphasised the collective responsibility to ensure the effective implementation of the report’s recommendations, particularly those related to the protection of civilians. She also called for stronger collaboration between the Fact Finding Mission and Sudanese civil society to expand the Mission’s work and investigations. Finally, she underscored the need for increased regional and international support and resources for the Mission, while maintaining its independence.
