“I was 10 years old at the time.
June brings the tormenting flashback in its worst forms. That day 17 years ago robbed me of my childhood, bringing me to the streets to protests for the release of my forcibly disappeared father – or at least for his family to finally learn his whereabouts.
Over time, my father’s disappearance became not only an emotional absence, but an administrative one. It followed me into every form, every office, every space where identity must be complete.”
Seventeen years on, @SammiBaluch writes about the enforced disappearance of her father, Dr Deen Mohammad Baloch, and the pain, struggle and hope that continue to define their fight for justice.

#17YearsOfPainAndAgony in Seach of a #MissingFather is the story of @SammiBaluch Deen and @Mehlab_Deen Deen.
I am a witness to that pain and agony from 13thDecember 2013 when we started to walk with Mama Qadeer, Farzana Majeed and others towards Islamabad.

Today, June 28, marks seventeen years since the enforced disappearance of Dr. Deem Mohammad Baloch, a senior leader of the Baloch National Movement (BNM).
Seventeen years is an unbearable period for any family. For nearly two decades, his loved ones have lived with uncertainty, pain, and the denial of even the most basic right to know his fate.
His daughter, Sammi Deen Baloch @SammiBaluch , has courageously dedicated herself to the peaceful struggle for the recovery of her father and all forcibly disappeared persons. Instead of receiving justice, she continues to face threats and intimidation aimed at forcing her to abandon her human rights work and her campaign for her father’s return.
This once again demonstrates a harsh reality: in Pakistan, human rights, justice, and democracy remain absent for those who challenge state abuses. Demanding information about a disappeared family member is treated as a crime, and human rights defenders are threatened for speaking out.
It is precisely this reality that has shaped the Baloch National Movement’s political philosophy. BNM believes that the Baloch people cannot secure their fundamental rights, dignity, and freedom under Pakistani occupation.
Throughout these years, the movement is continued despite immense sacrifices. We believe that truth and justice ultimately prevail. The Baloch people’s cause is rooted in these principles, and we remain committed to our peaceful struggle until our aspirations are realized.
For seventeen years, Sammi Deen Baloch has carried the unresolved case of her father Dr. Deen Mohammad, who remains subjected to enforced disappearance, an enduring human rights concern that continues to demand truth, accountability and due process.
Over this long period her pursuit of justice has unfolded under sustained pressure, where intimidation, surveillance and repeated threats have been used in an attempt to discourage her from speaking publicly. Instead of receiving answers about her father’s fate, she has faced conditions designed to create fear and isolation around her peaceful advocacy. Despite this, her stance has remained consistent and unshaken. Her demand is firmly rooted in fundamental rights, the right to know the fate of a disappeared person and the obligation of responsible institutions to ensure transparency and lawful accountability. Her voice has persisted despite attempts to suppress it, reflecting a struggle that extends beyond a single family and is shared by many in similar circumstances.
After seventeen years, the central issue remains unresolved. Pressure has not produced silence and intimidation has not produced answers. What remains is a clear and urgent call, disclose the truth, end enforced disappearances and ensure accountability in accordance with justice and law. I also demand the immediate release of Dr. Deen Mohammad.
