It goes to show that Illumination CAN make a good movie without any interference from a big company.
(Looking at you Nintendo, you fumbled HARD with Galaxy)
@bigmonkeong So it’s kinda weird cause I prefer Disney, but these at least look different from the leads of Despicable me so it at least feels more appealing in that regard
@GrandRegentRoy You’re not wrong, but I think what helps here, is that they don’t come off like all their other leads. Which what makes Disney feel more annoying
@firewalkwjaime It sometimes feels like I’m just mad over nothing, at least the movie wasn’t altered, but the experience often begins with the logo. Music or sounds made in them for the mood to start, the feeling of its place in history. It just feels like the erasure of personality.
Grown ass adults being weird about the Minions movie being reviewed better than Mario are weird. The exact kinds of people who think they’re improving the medium, when all they’re doing is crying about kids movies
@Gilition You’re joking right? It’s the whole reason Jax is so defensive about his identity, because he is not ready to admit he’s actually a she, and as a result hurts everyone in the circus but most importantly himself in the process.
This looks very cute, and while sure, the humans look like any other illumination film human, I think what sets it apart from that same issue with Disney is that the personality of the leads are distinct
First trailer for Illumination's ‘NOT ALONE’, starring Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez.
The rom-com follows a mechanic & astronaut who hide 3 aliens that come to Earth for safety.
In theaters April 16, 2027.
@PopejoyWriter It’s funny to see an account named after Cars 2 act all high and mighty over fans of a poorly received sequel, why is dude out here being an ass?
@MiguelArtwork16 There’s really no reason to be this weird about these movies. What toxic Mario fans are attacking this or any review praising Minions? The movie came out months ago, if you hate it fine, but you gotta let that shit go already
@quinde_jeffrey@themmaster30462 But was the first movie even following the game much? It just took some of the gameplay mechanics and ran with it. I just don’t see the point in doing a space movie where the climax is them using slingshots.
@VyceVictus I don’t like most illumination films, but I accept that it doesn’t matter, Im interested in the new Minions, but part of me wonders if there’s some hypocrisy in critics liking the one that references their personal interest in the way gamers liked Mario for game references.
@VyceVictus I think the best way to look at these movies and Illumination as a whole is to understand that they’re targeting kids and they aren’t embarrassed of it They know kids like colorful physical humor and have succeeded in that where studios like Pixar chase adults forgetting the kids
