آج ہم کوئٹہ پریس کلب میں فیملیز کی جانب سے بی وائی سی کے رہنماؤں کے کیسز اور ڈاکٹر ماہرنگ بلوچ کی صحت کے حوالے سے پریس کانفرنس کرنا چاہتے تھے۔ لیکن آج صبح سے ہمیں پریس کلب کے سامنے کھڑا رکھا گیا اور کہا گیا کہ پہلے ڈی سی سے این او سی لے کر آئیں۔

حالانکہ ہمارے سامنے کئی دیگر فیملیز کو پریس کانفرنس کرنے کی اجازت دی گئی۔ جب ہم نے پوچھا کہ اُن سے این او سی کیوں نہیں مانگا جا رہا اور ہم سے کیوں، تو ہمیں جواب دیا گیا کہ “اوپر سے آرڈر ہے” کہ یہاں صرف اُن فیملیز کو پریس کانفرنس کی اجازت ہے جن کے بچے پہاڑوں پر گئے ہیں یا جن کا تعلق منشیات کے کیسز سے ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ مسنگ پرسنز کی فیملیز یا دیگر سیاسی جماعتوں کو اجازت نہیں دی جائے گی۔

مجبوراً ہم نے کوئٹہ پریس کلب کی سیڑھیوں کے سامنے بیٹھ کر اپنی پریس کانفرنس شروع کی۔ اسی دوران پولیس کی بھاری نفری وہاں پہنچ گئی اور صحافیوں کو باہر نکالنے کی کوشش کی گئی تاکہ وہ ہماری پریس کانفرنس کو ریکارڈ نہ کریں۔

بلوچستان میں نااہل حکومت کی وجہ سے حالات اس نہج پر پہنچ چکے ہیں کہ اب بولنے اور سوال کرنے کی بھی اجازت نہیں رہی

For the past seven months, leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) have been held in detention without any formal charges. Across Pakistan, legal mechanisms are increasingly being misused as instruments of repression against dissenting voices, while the human rights situation in Balochistan has reached a critical point.

Hundreds of citizens across the province are facing fabricated FIRs and being placed under the Fourth Schedule merely for speaking about the grave issue of enforced disappearances. Every week, respected citizens are summoned to Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) offices, where they are subjected to prolonged interrogations and psychological intimidation. Disturbingly, even women are being harassed by male officers under the guise of “investigation,” often facing inappropriate and demeaning questioning.

The authorities have continuously sought to extend the unlawful detention of BYC leaders, first under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (3-MPO), then through illegitimate remand extensions, and now by conducting closed-door jail trials. Despite court orders, the CTD has repeatedly failed to submit reports on time, deliberately prolonging the legal process to keep detainees incarcerated indefinitely.

Prison not only meant to block the visibility of someone but also remain deplorable and life-threatening. One of the detained leaders, Bebarg Baloch, has developed a severe infection due to unsanitary conditions in custody. Despite hospitalization, his condition continues to worsen. Such infections and communicable diseases are rampant in Pakistani prisons due to poor hygiene, inadequate ventilation, and lack of medical oversight. 3 Years back , with a medical inspection team, I visited Hudda Jail. We identified latent tuberculosis (TB) in sputum samples from fourteen inmates, highlighting the systemic health crisis within the prison system.

It is now evident that the CTD’s deliberate delay in processing these cases serves only one purpose: to endanger the lives of political detainees through prolonged confinement and inhumane conditions.

The international community particularly European Union leaders, and the European External Action Service (EEAS) must take serious note of these violations. Before granting or renewing Pakistan’s GSP+ trade status, the EU should ensure compliance with the 27 international conventions on human rights, labour rights, and good governance, which are prerequisites for eligibility.

We urge the European Union, United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and other democratic governments to:
•Demand the immediate release of all political prisoners detained without charge;
•Call for independent investigations into cases of enforced disappearances and custodial torture;
•Ensure that Pakistan upholds its international human rights obligations under treaties such as the ICCPR and the Convention Against Torture.
