The day closed with a contest of minds and a shared table. Sainik School Purulia conducted its second Inter-School Quiz Contest on the Armed Forces, national security, defence history and the contribution of the Indian Air Force. A quiz, the school held, is not a parade of memory. It is training in attention, judgement, and the grace to win or lose well. The motto over the hall was Nabha Sparsham Deeptam.

Teams from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, The Assembly of God Church School, BSS Central Public School, Delhi World Public School and St. Xavier’s School, Purulia, remained engaged from the first round to the final buzzer, with sharp answers and clean sportsmanship. The contest was graced by Swami Jnanarupananda Ji, Mr Clayton Francis, Mr Prosenjit Roy and Ms Sudha Singh. Their return for a second year was itself a mark of confidence.

They witnessed an enthralling programme presented by the young pupils to mark Indian Air Force Day. The motto already saluted on the parade ground, Nabha Sparsham Deeptam — Touch the sky with glory, was placed before the youngest learners. Glory, the visit suggested, is learnt early, and the sky is honoured first in the classroom.

Sainik School Purulia and its cadets observed Indian Air Force Day with a ceremonial parade, marking the raising of the Force on 8 October 1932. The motto saluted on the ground was Nabha Sparsham Deeptam — Touch the sky with glory. What was honoured was not only aircraft and uniform, but a habit of mind: being ready in the instant that decides everything.
