When people say “you’re made of star stuff” it’s supposed to be inspiring, but all it tells me is that I exploded once and I will very probably do it again.
As long as people are still labeled as “wheelchair-bound” or “confined to a wheelchair,” a wheelchair will always by viewed as a limiting instrument, rather than a mobilizing and freeing one.
I think a lot of us with ADHD are convinced we are too much. Too emotional. Too forgetful. Too late. Then we spend most of our efforts trying to be “good enough.”
Some of us never feel like we’re good enough.
I think THAT is where at least some of the RSD comes from.
Cheers to the delivery guy who saw me out of my wheelchair and asked, "should I say congratulations?" I said, "nah, I'm in and out as I need it. It's a helpful tool." He responded, "oh ok!"
Nondisabled ppl, learn to ask rather than assume or project. It really is that easy.
@GTWScar Wait is this the Tilite ZR? Gosh I hope you can either get your insurance to fork it over, or get an insurance that will get you this because these chairs are the best!! I have an Aero Z and it is an amazing mobility tool.
Keep wearing a mask.
About 10 days ago, I was treated by my physio *while she had COVID*. We spent an hour in very close proximity in the same small room in which she'd also spent the previous 6+ hours.
We were both masked.
I did not catch COVID.
KEEP. WEARING. A. MASK.
talks of 'clocking straight people invading pride' make me tap DO NOT GATEKEEP sign very sternly. regardless how long youve been around or how strongly you want to be arbiter of who looks queer enough thats not your job. create space where buds can LEARN and CELEBRATE themselves
If you wanna make an informed COVID personal risk assessment (without widespread mitigation) unfollow the CDC & follow disabled advocates.
We've correctly predicted since 2020 what would happen months in advance with COVID based on leaders failing to act. We know stuff.
All I’m saying is, that if you’re advocating for disabled people, you’re advocating for us to have access to the lives WE CHOOSE, not the lives you deem appropriate or acceptable to you.
The thing that you don’t really think about until you’re in my shoes (disabled) or have a disabled family member is how there is usually absolutely no place to sit at street festivals. Only stairs and curbs. No where to eat. Take a break. Take medication. Feed your kid.
What I'm learning from listening to the first season of @InTheDarkAPM is that if you get murdered or kidnapped in @StearnsCountyMN it'll take 20+ years for those cops to arrest the suspect in front of their face, some of whom they had IN THEIR CUSTODY and then let go.
This is fascinating. I have no faith in law enforcement like, normally, and than this is just,,,, icing on the cake.
There is an audio clip of them congratulating themselves for their "hard work" after the Wetterling case and my god. Pompous assholes, the lot of them
I hate the framing of "younger people are more likely to identify as queer" because it quietly erases why: younger queer people are more likely to be *alive*.
It's not generational. It's the lingering effects of genocide
