🗺 The source to sea interactive maps are here! From the source of the Nith high in the hills to the mouth opening into the breathtaking Solway, you can explore it all for yourself in our series of specially made maps- see them in the link below! https://t.co/69y9Xoq2pR
Among the towns and villages along the Nith is the small village of New-Abbey. The village was recently featured in the local press for their community spirit. With a community a “swap box”, or the local store delivering supplies to those in need, community is key in New Abbey 🤝
I've been working on Guided by Environment #4 recently. #4 was made as part of this year's #Nithraid I made a song using only one recording of the Caul at the Whitesands. Give it a listen #Dumfries https://t.co/0RtWwXGyZ2
We're also joining forces with @TheStovies and @WWTCaerlaverock for a longer 'Wild Goose Chase' ride on the 13th October if you want something a bit more challenging (but still nice and slow!) https://t.co/dNLgCfVIDi
On the way out to the coast, we pass by Sweetheart Abbey- so named because the patron who funded its construction, Lady Devorgilla, is buried here with the embalmed heart of her husband which she kept long after his death 💀 💓
If we get into bother on our journey along the river, Nith Inshore Rescue are nearby! After a tragic death near Glencaple, local people decided the village needed its own rescue boat; So Nith Inshore Rescue was born!

With 1400 acres of wetland teeming with wildlife, the wetlands centre at Caerlaverock is an important place for the species that live by the river. Swallows gathering; wildflower meadows full of bees, butterflies and dragonflies; the occasional osprey- all great reasons to visit
