Students (present and past) and their supporters protested the planned closure of their junior department at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a play-in this afternoon.
... their teacher today upset that they would not have a violin to play come the summer holidays, as they are loaned one by the college. A lot of the students are on bursaries to help cover the cost of lessons. The RWCMD decision only hastens the death of music education in wales
The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama told its staff today that it is axeing its junior department at the end of this term. Almost 200 children study there on saturdays. That will all stop in July. This is not rich kids playing expensive instruments. One of them texted...
#Offies#NewNoms 2024 for “The Barber of Seville” from Charles Court Opera @charlescourt@jsavournin @davidburnspr at Wilton’s Music Hall: OPERA PRODUCTION – congratulations! 🎉 Congratulate them by adding a comment on our website: #Offies#NewNoms 2024… https://t.co/4pHKxJelca
Chuffed to bits with this news, receiving this 'Offie' nom for Opera Production (and a second for 'Opera Performance' for the Ensemble & David Eaton) for CCO's Barber at Wilton's!
Thank you so much @OffWestEndCom and congratulations to all involved!
I am reading a lot about excellence in opera and it being elite etc.
I have very recently discovered the absolute thrill and joy of opera. I can go to see one at @E_N_O
From as little as £10. I usually pay about £30 for front row balcony.
It costs over £100 to see Abba holograms.
I cannot begin to imagine the feelings at ENO today… most incredible, wonderful company, unthinkable to have a British Opera scene without it. That the members were served redundancy notices MID-PERFORMANCE last night is cruel, wicked, thoughtless beyond belief. Thoughts with all
With thanks to Opera Holland Park, today’s artist is Samantha Price performing Michael Head’s The Little Road to Bethlehem with pianist Stuart Wild. @SamJeanPrice

As we’re all a little tired of endlessly repeating, there is no such thing as “ENO” without the people who actually create the performances. You’re moving a brand-name, not a company in any meaningful sense.
Unsurprisingly, this statement is more notable for what it doesn’t say than what it does. No clues as to where or how often performances in Manchester will take place, and, more ominously, no mention of whether the current chorus, orchestra or technical team will be involved… 🐘
"It would be a disaster if there wasn’t another full-scale full-time opera company in London. What does it say about our ambitions as a country and a city if we don’t feel we can support both?" https://t.co/0ruW65kgE4
I know everyone is very angry about this, but please PLEASE fill it in. The only thing that will matter is data, not tweets. I live in hope that this data can then be presented to the next government in order to redress the current sh*tshow.
