Emaciated dogs with split tails covered in black substance “much happier and healthier” after RSPCA rescue The RSPCA has shared an update on two starved and neglected dogs who were rescued from “filthy and cramped” conditions. Lurchers Sadie and Blaze had not been fed properly in three months when RSPCA Inspector Kim Greaves attended their 22-year-old owner Jack Pearson's home in Leicester Road, Dinnington, South Yorkshire. In her written statement to the court, Insp Greaves said: “Both dogs were tethered at separate points outside. “The area was covered with faeces, to such an extent that both dogs were having to walk through it, there was no way for them to avoid doing so, and there was no evidence of any food.” Insp Greaves added: “Blaze was visibly underweight, lethargic and had no access to a clean laying area as his kennel was damp and extremely dirty. He also appeared to have blood on the tip of his tail. “Sadie was brighter in her demeanour but due to her rough coat I was unable to tell her bodily condition. Her ‘kennel’ was a storage area with a door which was wide open to the elements and could not have been closed due to her tether being attached to the opposite fence. “There was a black substance all over the floor which I could see on her legs and paws. Water was available but the receptacle was green with algae. Four-year-old Blaze had pressure sores on his elbows and hipbones, a split tail - which was bleeding profusely - and a cut on one of his back paws. Blaze’s tail could not be saved and was amputated the following month. One-year-old Sadie was covered in a black substance compatible with either engine oil or black paint. She too had pressure sores and a split tail. Pearson pleaded guilty to two offences contrary to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 in May 2024 and received a 10-year ban. Speaking after the conclusion of the case Insp Greaves said Sadie and Blaze "have made fantastic progress at our branch-run animal centre in #Bawtry, the staff there have done a fantastic job, and they now have a much brighter and happier future ahead of them.” A spokesperson from the Doncaster, Rotherham & District Branch described the pair as “much happier and healthier now”. This is why we say always, always apply if you think you can help even if there are promises from people in the comments saying they’ll take him! Such comments very rarely result in a home and it leaves our dogs at risk because people think they are safe when they really aren’t
Storm is a 6 year old entire male husky
He was under another rescue but sadly found himself in big trouble when he was seized by the police after repeatedly escaping from his home
Luckily the police/DLO have agreed to release him to us But we need somewhere for him to go!!
He is a lovely, friendly boy who has lived with other dogs previously and may be able to again so long as they are introduced slowly.
The most important thing about Storm is he CANNOT be allowed to escape. This has usually been through open doors so is easily managed by a husky-savvy owner
Daze is a young female husky cross (spay status unknown)
She was picked up as her stray and her time in the pound is up TOMORROW but we are told she will be safe if we pick her up on Wednesday! 💔🆘
Another gorgeous, friendly baby who has been a joy to everyone she meets. Obviously we have no history on her due to being found as a stray but she has no reaction to walking past other dogs so we feel she will be fine living with others
Both these dogs need homes NOW, please ignore any comments saying they’ll take one of them and still apply if you feel you can help them!
Preference will always go to those offering forever homes to limit the times our dogs are moved but we do use foster homes when needed so please apply either way! We have many other dogs waiting to come in so your help would be much appreciated even if these two find other homes!

RSPCA Appeal ‼️ | Appleby Horse Fair 2024: CCTV released after horse worked to death.
The stallion – a three-year-old skewbald trotter, 14hh – collapsed at Jubilee Bridge at around 3pm yesterday (Wednesday, June 5).
RSPCA chief inspector Rob Melloy said: “The horse’s temperature was very high, and he was covered in rubs. He had been worked until he dropped.
“This was an inexcusable act of cruelty. This person has let themselves, their family and of course this poor horse down, who undoubtedly suffered before he died.
“We want to hear from anyone who knows who is responsible and are releasing CCTV images of him, with the horse, so that we can ensure this doesn’t happen again. Please contact the RSPCA on our special appeal line 0300 123 8018 or police on 101.
“This incident is a very disappointing way to have started the Fair today, where there are so many examples of good horsemanship, and we know a lot of people will be upset to hear about this.”
Gypsy and Traveller representatives, Billy Welch and Bill Lloyd, have "condemned" the unidentified party responsible for the animal's death.
"We are sickened and saddened by the cruelty that this person or persons have shown," they said.
"We have no hesitation in asking anyone who has any knowledge of this awful event to cooperate fully with police and RSPCA in identifying whoever is responsible," they said.
They urged anyone with relevant information to speak up for "the sake of justice and the fair's future".
The RSPCA and other animal welfare charities will operate at Salt Tip Corner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm, where help can be sought for any animal in need.
