Johnson's flounce-out starts two processes. The first is the meltdown in office of the Tory Party... there are three factions - Johnsonists, NatCs and austerian technocrats who have run out of road to govern.

The second process involves the creation of a new, populist formation with far-right politics. Tice and Farage are working towards it - but the big step will be the moment any of the fragments makes a formal move beyond Conservative structures.

Johnson's garbage statement injected misogynistic conspiracy theories; the NatC conference was thick with racism, traditionalism and "Cultural Marxism" obsessions. There'll be a fight now for the soul of the Tory party...

Liberal conservatism has already been effectively ousted. Next up the neoliberal globalists.

Yet the nice shire dwelling people of SE England will go on voting Tory even as it mobilises the kind of plebeian racism that disgusts them.

As for the Sunak govt it has lost the ability to wield its majority. You watch. Everything from solar farms to the cap badges of infantry regiments will now become a Blue-On-Blue.

Meanwhile the economy is drifting.. Gilt yields are close to the highs thru reached under Truss. There is no growth story. There is no governance story other than "we're competent".

This is why we need PR - to catalyse a constitutional change that ensures people like Johnson, Kempsell, Cummings, Frost, Dorris never get near power again.
