PFF issued a statement - no negotiations, the family @Winnie_Byanyima issued a statement: we want bail not unprincipled negotiations. The next day the DPP opens a door? Who will go through it if KB refuses and insists on a full pardon or a fair trial? Government has several objectives here:
1. Cleaning up their mess
2. Creating the belief that they forgave KB
3. Creating division in the opposition (Team Negotiations vs Team No Way)
4. Calming the rising political temperature against military brutality.

Tomorrow, hundreds of Kenyan activists will storm the streets to demand the release of Ugandan veteran activist and four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye.

Dr Kizza Besigye, appearing ex parte in an ongoing court hearing while in his hospital bed, is being accused of treason. A charge that the primary evidence has failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

Dr Warren Kizza Besigye was abducted in a joint operation between Kenyan and Ugandan forces, driven at breakneck speed to Kampala, from where he was paraded before a military tribunal.

Pending a Supreme Court decision at the time, the tribunal was deprived of its civilian jurisdiction. At the moment, the anticipation was that Dr Besigye and his aide Obed Lutale were to be released because of the expiry of their remand warrant. However, the state proceeded to parade them before a civilian court that denied them bail even after long days of waiting without charges.

On noticing misconduct by the judicial officers in the matter, Dr Besigye and his co-accused asked the sitting judge to recuse himself from the matter, to which request he objected, leading to the most unfair trial in the history of Uganda's criminal jurisprudence. Why does most of Uganda continue punishing activists with fabricated charges?

Court Update 📍

The trial of @kizzabesigye1 and his co-accused resumed today and it was the turn of State witness Andrew Wilson to be cross examined by the defence team of Hajji Obeid Lutale and Cpt. Denis Oola.

Among the key highlights of the cross examination were;

1. Andrew Wilson confirmed to court that his real name is Andrew Wilson and only uses Orlando for online identity.
2. Andrew Wilson confirmed to court that he has no education qualifications. However, that he is into private security and investigations particularly offering services of surveillance, military advisory, averting espionage, counter terrorism services among others.
3. Andrew Wilson also confirmed to court that he had never known Hajji Obeid Lutale before their encounter in Nairobi, where he described him as a listening post who barely said anything in their Nairobi meeting.
4. He also stated that he lured hajji Obeid Lutale into the Riverside apartment in Nairobi.
5. Andrew Wilson confirmed to court that he was working for the government of Uganda and that he was receiving some resources from the Ugandan government and further stated that his mode of payment from the Ugandan government is classified.
6. Andrew Wilson was also cross examined by lawyers of Cpt. Dennis Oola and he confirmed to court that he had never seen Cpt Dennis Oola until the trial. He also stated that he has no idea as to why Cpt Dennis Oola was arrested.

Defence lawyers of Hajji Obeid Lutale and Cpt Dennis Oola informed court that they have concluded cross examination of the state witness and the matter was adjourned to September 17, 2026 for re-examination of the state witness by Prosecution.
