The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel. To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect.  Everything I know about acting, activism, and humanism has been profoundly shaped by the Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life.

This merger has real consequences for real people, and for the entire country. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public. 

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.

This isn’t a random scientist who got lucky.

Mariano Barbacid discovered the first human oncogene in 1982. He isolated H-RAS from bladder cancer cells and proved a single point mutation could trigger cancer. That finding launched the entire field of molecular oncology.

KRAS mutations cause 90% of pancreatic cancers. For 43 years, oncologists called KRAS “undruggable” because the protein had no obvious binding pocket. Barbacid spent the last decade using genetically engineered mice to systematically test every node in the KRAS signaling pathway, looking for combinations that would work without killing the patient.

The triple therapy blocks KRAS three ways at once: the main growth signal, the escape routes through EGFR and HER2, and the stress-response backup through STAT3. Cut the engine, seal the exits, disable the emergency system. Tumors vanished in mice and didn’t return for 200+ days after treatment stopped.

Pancreatic cancer has a 13% five-year survival rate. 8% for the ductal adenocarcinoma type this therapy targets. Most patients live one year after diagnosis.

The catch: this is preclinical. Human trials are 3+ years away. One of the drugs, RMC-6236, might get approved this year, but the full triple combination has regulatory hurdles.

Still. The man who discovered human oncogenes in 1982 may have just figured out how to eliminate the cancer those genes cause. That’s a 43-year arc from first principles to potential cure. Science rarely works this clean.

The whole "fight for the girl" trope can feel like it’s straight out of a movie, but real life? It’s way more complex. If we’re talking about romance, it’s not about chasing or battling for someone as if they’re a prize. It’s about mutual vibes, clear communication, and respect. If she’s into it, awesome! But if not, no amount of "fighting" should turn into pressure or desperation. It's about connecting genuinely, not coercing affection. Real strength in a man—or anyone, really—is respecting someone’s feelings and space, not proving persistence. So, maybe the real fight is against old-school notions of romance, pushing for healthier, more respectful ways to show you care.

"I’m personally a Holocaust survivor as an infant, I barely survived. My grandparents were killed in Aushwitz and most of my extended family were killed. I became a Zionist; this dream of the Jewish people resurrected in their historical homeland and the barbed wire of Aushwitz being replaced by the boundaries of a Jewish state with a powerful army…and then I found out that it wasn’t exactly like that, that in order to make this Jewish dream a reality we had to visit a nightmare on the local population.

There’s no way you could have ever created a Jewish state without oppressing and expelling the local population. Jewish Israeli historians have shown without a doubt that the expulsion of Palestinians was persistent, pervasive, cruel, murderous and with deliberate intent - that’s what’s called the 'Nakba' in Arabic; the 'disaster' or the 'catastrophe'. There’s a law that you cannot deny the Holocaust, but in Israel you’re not allowed to mention the Nakba, even though it’s at the very basis of the foundation of Israel.

I visited the Occupied Territories (West Bank) during the first intifada. I cried every day for two weeks at what I saw; the brutality of the occupation, the petty harassment, the murderousness of it, the cutting down of Palestinian olive groves, the denial of water rights, the humiliations...and this went on, and now it’s much worse than it was then.

It’s the longest ethnic cleansing operation in the 20th and 21st century. I could land in Tel Aviv tomorrow and demand citizenship but my Palestinian friend in Vancouver, who was born in Jerusalem, can’t even visit!

So then you have these miserable people packed into this, horrible…people call it an 'outdoor prison', which is what it is. You don’t have to support Hamas policies to stand up for Palestinian rights, that’s a complete falsity. You think the worse thing you can say about Hamas, multiply it by a thousand times, and it still will not meet the Israeli repression and killing and dispossession of Palestinians.

And 'anybody who criticises Israel is an anti-Semite' is simply an egregious attempt to intimidate good non-Jews who are willing to stand up for what is true."
