Recognising what works for different groups of men, focusing on key risk factors and providing evidenced based support will be crucial and we’d encourage everyone to submit evidence to this important consultation.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 so it’s critical that suicide prevention is front and centre of this strategy.
With men making up 75% of all suicides, this strategy is a real opportunity to prevent thousands of deaths.
“That conversation was a turning point for me - it’s why I’m still here. I worked on myself after that and, when I was ready, I decided I’d love to be that person on the other end of the phone. Aside from having my children, it’s the best, most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.” 💚
“They asked a question that I hadn’t admitted to myself yet: ‘Do you want to end your life?’. It was scary at first, but saying the words was freeing because it didn’t become this secret. Everything I’d been holding in wasn’t just in my head anymore.”
As we head into this long weekend, don’t forget that our volunteers are here to listen, anytime you need. If life feels tough right now, remember you’re not alone 💚
