AJC was honored to meet with Somaliland President (@PresidencySL_) Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, Foreign Minister Abdirahman Dahir Adan, Minister of Defense Mohamed Yusuf Ali Ahmed, Speaker of Parliament Yasin Haji Mohamoud, and other senior Somaliland leaders to discuss developments in the Horn of Africa, regional security, the democratic country's strategic importance, and Somaliland’s growing relationship with Israel.
The discussion also explored the significance of Israel being the first UN member state to officially recognize Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state, as well as opportunities for deeper cooperation between Somaliland and Israel.
AJC’s Center for a New Middle East is committed to building trusted partnerships with leaders around the world and fostering dialogue on the issues shaping Israel, the Middle East, and beyond.
@DemirciEbuzer “Constructive criticism is welcome, but #Somaliland strategic importance and its potential contribution to regional stability cannot be overlooked by the international community.”
“We are not giving anything for free,” Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro” said in an interview with Semafor in Washington. “We have to offer something. And we expect the other partner [to have] the same or equal opportunities.”
Recognition is the prize, but economic cooperation, trade and investment can proceed in parallel.

Today on Capitol Hill, we held substantive and constructive meetings with Senator Mike Rounds (R–SD) and Congressman Brian Mast (R–FL), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Our discussions focused on strengthening Somaliland–U.S. relations, enhancing maritime security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, promoting regional stability, and expanding opportunities for trade and investment.
We expressed our appreciation for their continued congressional engagement with Somaliland, including Senator Rounds’ role in advancing the Somaliland Partnership Act and Chairman Mast’s leadership on U.S. foreign policy legislation.
Somaliland and the United States share enduring values and important strategic interests. We remain committed to building on this foundation and advancing a deeper, lasting, and mutually beneficial partnership that contributes to peace, security, and prosperity across the region.
If you watched the last 2 days of my coverage on @MarioNawfal 's show, you'd have known this was in the offing. And, as @EliClifton so brilliantly put it last night on the show with me: yes, the DC crew would absolutely rather create entirely new "countries" to restore some semblance of "deterrence" rather than just accept reality as it is.
Hudson Institute is the key promoter of this particular mania, fyi.
@umutcagrisariii@TiborPNagyJr@HassanSMohamud Turkey, please stop photographing vulnerable people in exchange for a small donation. Human dignity is not a photo opportunity. This reflects a colonial mentality.
Credit Somaliland President "Irro" for putting his cards on the table. SL is offering the US highly valuable deals well worth pursuing. We would be shortsighted to rebuff them. Prez Trump doesn't usually care who gets upset; he shouldn't this time either!

🟡 SCOOP: Somaliland’s president puts everything on the table for Trump by offering US investors access to a strategically located port and mineral resources while leaving open the possibility of expanded military access.

Somaliland now plans to develop Berbera, a port city on the Gulf of Aden, as another digital gateway in the region.
The fibre route will connect Ethiopia, South Sudan and other markets, alongside Kenya’s Mombasa gateway.
Yesterday at Capitol Hill, I met with U.S. Representatives John Rose (R–TN) and John Moolenaar (R–MI) to discuss strengthening Somaliland–U.S. relations.
Our discussions focused on strategic and security cooperation, trade and investment, and stability in the Horn of Africa, Red Sea, and Gulf of Aden.
Somaliland stands ready to work closely with the United States to translate our shared strategic interests into a stronger, mutually beneficial partnership, advancing security, stability, and economic opportunity across this vital region.
It was an honor to welcome Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi to my office in Washington today.
The people of Somaliland have worked hard to strengthen their relationship with the U.S. and our allies. It's why I'm proud to lead legislation that supports removing barriers to U.S. financial markets, which is great for both of our nations.
See exchange at today’s House of Representatives @FinancialCmte hearing between @RepJohnRose & @USTreasury@SecScottBessent about legal & regulatory barriers to #Somaliland’s access to the #USA🇺🇲 financial system. Progress one step at a time, but direction & momentum are clear.👏
H.E. President @AbdirahmanIrro visited Capitol Hill today, where he met with U.S. Congressmen John Rose and John Moolenaar.
Discussions focused on strengthening Somaliland–U.S. relations, with emphasis on security, strategic cooperation, investment, and regional stability.
