Truly inspiring! We were honored to welcome Dr. Abdinur, Somalia’s former Minister of Education and a respected icon of Somali education, to our book fair. His presence made this occasion even more meaningful.

It was a great pleasure to attend, speak, and serve as a panelist at the 2nd Annual Somali International Book Fair & Arts Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
It was a wonderful event, bringing together writers, scholars, readers, students, and literature enthusiasts from around the world. Book fairs provide a valuable platform for celebrating literature, exchanging ideas, sharing knowledge, and fostering meaningful dialogue across cultures and generations.
I particularly enjoyed listening to fellow writers, engaging in thought-provoking discussions, and exchanging ideas with the audience. I was also pleased to see my book, Macallinkeen Allow Kaal, among the books showcased at the event.
My sincere gratitude to the organizers, participants, and everyone who contributed to making this gathering a success. I wish you all continued success and look forward to future opportunities to celebrate Somali literature, arts, and intellectual heritage.
Mahadsanidiin, and best wishes to all!

When Government Persuasion Meets Opposition Disarray: The Failure to Articulate an Alternative Vision
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud continues to dominate Somalia’s political narrative despite mounting governance challenges, deepening political divisions, and an increasingly contested political transition.
His ability to shape public debate through persuasive oratory, ambitious promises, and proactive political messaging has enabled him to maintain the political initiative, often leaving the opposition reacting to events rather than defining the national agenda.
The government’s advantage, however, rests not merely on its control of the presidency, but also on the opposition’s fragmentation and failure to articulate a coherent, credible, and compelling alternative vision for Somalia.
Rather than being weakened by scrutiny of its governance record, the government has frequently redirected public attention toward the opposition’s internal divisions, competing ambitions, and lack of strategic coordination.
The president’s command of the political narrative allows him to frame national debates, promote new initiatives, and present himself as an experienced leader and guarantor of stability. Consequently, persuasive rhetoric often overshadows scrutiny of policy outcomes, while the opposition struggles to offer a unified response grounded in evidence and practical alternatives.
The government presents relative stability in Mogadishu as one of its principal achievements. However, persistent insecurity and conflict elsewhere in the country raise fundamental questions about the effectiveness, sustainability, and national reach of its security strategy.
Similarly, personal attacks and unsubstantiated accusations directed at prominent opposition figures, including former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, risk diverting public debate from substantive policy questions toward personal rivalries and political legitimacy. Such allegations warrant evidence-based scrutiny, particularly in light of the government’s own foreign alliances.
The opposition, meanwhile, must resist being drawn into a reactive cycle that allows the incumbent to dictate the terms of political engagement.
The way forward requires a fundamental strategic recalibration by the opposition. Its leaders must move beyond fragmented political positioning and individual presidential ambitions to develop a common platform addressing constitutional governance, federalism, national security, democratic accountability, and a negotiated electoral transition.
A coordinated communications strategy, evidence-based criticism, and credible policy proposals are essential to challenging the government’s narrative and demonstrating that a viable alternative administration could govern more effectively. If electoral success is the objective, opposition leaders must also consider whether a broadly acceptable common candidate can emerge through genuine consultation, compromise, and political agreement.
Ultimately, Somalia’s political challenge extends beyond the contest between a persuasive incumbent who otherwise stands on shaky grounds and a divided opposition.
It concerns the legitimacy of the political transition, the credibility of democratic institutions, and the danger of subordinating the country’s political future to the ambitions of an incumbent or any individual seeking office.
Unless the opposition transforms fragmented resistance into a coherent political alternative, the incumbent is likely to retain a significant advantage in shaping public debate and influencing the direction of the transition.
A credible and sustainable political transition requires more than competing speeches and unfulfilled promises. It demands constitutional legitimacy, inclusive political negotiations, accountable governance, and a shared commitment to democratic continuity over personal political survival.

“Dear Mr. President, please consider imposing tariffs on companies that hire overseas employees for customer service, as many provide unprofessional experiences. Thank you.”

Political change in Somalia must happen through genuine national deliberations and consent and in accordance with the rules and procedures of parliament. A rushed political process driven by individual agendas will divide our nation. Inclusive politics must include all.

Last night, an angry group of people from secessionist Somaliland destroyed a shop in Hargeisa owned by a businessman from the SSC region. This came after the defeat of the secessionist army in Laascaanood on August 25th. In recent nights, there have been attacks on civilians from SSC-KHAATUMO around Burco and Hargiesa.
Indeed, this is not something that our nation stands for. We are united in the pursuit of justice and accountability. It is crucial that all terrorists face justice and are held accountable for their actions.
Minister @AhmedMoFiqi you should not stand next to this monster. He is not your blood. He would have killed you if he had gotten the chance. As he has killed many prominent figures in Mudug. He’s an unrepentant killer. He should face Justice! #NoApologismForShabaab.
