Grace has volunteered in Ghana, where she organized Menstruation Hygiene Day for six schools, among many other activities. Excelling at grant-writing and computer skills, SISAL is positive her contagious energy will take us in new directions!  #sisalfoundation

Why are we called SISAL? What do we do? Let's revisit our mission and vision:

SISAL stands for Supporting Indigenous Sustainability Abroad and Locally with models owned by the people it serves and that can thrive without SISAL. We provide a hand-up, not a handout; a clear exit strategy is a core value. Our work is done when we are no longer needed; independence, not dependence, is the goal. SISAL owns no projects, structures, or land. Support and programs are established with cooperation and collaboration between individuals and their communities.

We advocate for independent sustainability, female empowerment, and opportunities. We create sustainable structures that address hunger and drought; we address period poverty, FGM, and child marriage. We stand against colonialism mentality and patriarchal structures that suppress the rights of others. We provide quality education for marginalized communities, and support local organizations. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization recognized by the USA EIN#86-2384150. #sisalfoundation

We really hit a grand slam ⚾️ when Losioki Somoire joined our Board of Directors! His first project was to oversee the installation of the irrigation for our community garden. Not only did he work alongside the installers, he sent frequent photo updates allowing me to keep our sponsors informed of exactly where their support goes!
