3 minutes of Ben Bernanke saying that 2021-2023 inflation was driven by supply-side shocks, not demand.
"The inflation was caused, pretty much, by the supply side. […] those of us who thought this was a supply-side shock said, ‘no, it’ll be a pretty benign disinflation.’" /1
@KentraHagatra It might still be a red but balo at least had the right to go after the ball. That's been a yellow in this tournament so far. Messi's is more straightforward. The Algerian had possession and the foul had three strikes: studs, rake, Achilles twist. Any other situation it's a red
@KentraHagatra I think this is the best take so far making the case for a red. But I do think there's some nuanced differences in the two plays. The Algerian player had the ball and Messi was reckless through him from behind. Tonight's play was a loose ball even w/ both players moving fast
So there is one rule for Messi and another for everyone else …
Good news for #USMNT is they’re through to the last 16. Bad news is they’ll be without their star striker Folarin Balogun for #Belgium
Similarities to Messi challenge on Algeria’s Mandi in terms of how Balogun’s
studs raked down right achilles of Muharemovic. But his eyes were fixed firmly on ball & that action was the unintended consequence of a collision between two bodies. Red card so harsh. Zero consistency of officiating/VAR application.
No recourse to appeal.
Also, I can’t understand the insistence on slowing down these challenges on review - you end up comparing two different incidents.

Do superstars like Lionel Messi get special treatment from officials?
Yes, they do - but it’s more complicated than it may seem.
Ex-Premier League referee Graham Scott (@refsplaining) explains why.

@Matt_Levine_1@landondonovan Check out Tom Byer "soccer starts at home". The basic gist is that kids should master ball control early w/ both feet. There was also an nyt article on Ajax "we teach kids how to play football, the US teaches how to play matches". Basically made technique first
@RealDealPodz@DonShelby__ Doesn't seem like a decline in athleticism and effectiveness would be much better with a striker who wasn't always in the wrong spaces!
@RealDealPodz@DonShelby__ It's much easier for defenses to shut him down when KM is dragging defenders left creating congestion & removing any outlet option in the box. Vini's best moments this year were when Dean and Trent played well and/or when mbappe was out.
@RealDealPodz@DonShelby__ Black hole/routinely losing duels is an exaggeration. It's true that he's not unstoppable like 2 yrs ago, but that's more to do with no box presence or dlp creating fast transition opportunities. He still has great numbers & would have more assists if km was more efficient.

Knife store in the restaurant supply district to get gifts for yourself or others who like to cook. A good cold soba and wagyu tonkotsu spot nearby that neighborhood. If open the samurai museum is great and pairs well with shogun & Netflix samurai series
Gavin should work to pass a much better designed policy. Tax borrowing done by equity billionaires like capital gains. Fix commercial property taxes (a more efficient big tech tax). Fund healthcare. Agree to audit government efficiency, public safety, and permitting inefficiency
The SEIU-sponsored "Billionaire's tax" will go down as one of the biggest unforced errors in California history. It did more to undermine wealthy individuals' confidence in the state than any law or regulation ... even though virtually no California politician even supports it.
@Itsjoeco@moseskagan@JewishWonk It wasn't perfect but it definitely plugged gaps in the system e.g. exchanges for derivatives, increased bank capital requirements, limits on prop trading, resolution authority, stress testing. The banking system has been stable. SVB/FRB were blips w/ out contagion. CFPB had wins
So much time and money wasted on permitting, legal action, and bad faith environmental reviews for something that is unequivocally a great policy with many beneficiaries
I can’t get over how so many people freaked out about congestion pricing before it went into effect…
but now that we have it, everyone has just moved on and our city is simply nicer, with a new positive headline every few weeks
