It annoys me when people are ignorant and chat bullshit like this.
Arsenal were literally the first-hand victims of City’s state-backed takeover.
The initial plan for City was basically to plagiarise Arsenal. Wenger’s Arsenal were the Premier League possession-football OGs. Then City got taken over, and the first thing they did was sign Arsenal’s players.
They signed Arsenal’s starting full-backs, Sagna and Clichy, the club’s best winger at the time, Nasri, their striker, Adebayor, in an attempt to play football the Arsenal, Wenger’s way.
The foundation of their new era was built around Wenger’s ideologies.
It used to be a running joke back in 2009/10/11 that City had replaced Arsenal as the Barcelona of England.
Arsenal fans and Wenger were championing the City hate when everyone else was busy romanticising them.
Arsenal were the first casualties because the City takeover happened at a time when Arsenal were already going through a financial crisis after moving to the Emirates.
Wenger had to deal with a state-backed club coming in and taking his players while he was trying to keep Arsenal competitive under severe financial constraints.
I love how Arsenal get slated for getting 3 points but when we use to play well but lose in the big games we get slated I’m so glad we found approach these big games or different mentality to so called smaller sides
