Our offices are hearing from constituents whose naturalization interviews have been canceled, whose green card applications have stalled, and whose employment authorization documents have lapsed while awaiting renewal.
@USCIS and @USCISJoe's anti-immigation pause and country discrimination policies go down in flames. This decision shoudl be followed by several more of the next few weeks, shutting down this nonsense once and for all.
USCIS has stopped processing the cases of lawful Iranian immigrant students, scholars, professionals who have already been through a rigorous vetting process at the time of their arrival. These delays have stalled lives.

A functioning immigration system should be secure, fair, predictable, and humane.
Instead, legal immigrants, students, researchers, physicians, engineers, spouses, and families are facing growing uncertainty through policies like the #USCISpause, frozen adjudications, loss of work authorization, and pressure to leave the country despite following every legal rule.
America deserves an immigration system that protects security while also preserving stability, due process, family unity, and the ability to attract global talent.

A lot of Americans supported stronger border enforcement and action against illegal immigration.
Very few expected legal immigrants, international students, researchers, physicians, engineers, and families who followed every rule to become targets of frozen applications, visa uncertainty, loss of work authorization, and policies pushing them out of the country.
The #USCISpause has already devastated countless lawful immigrants who built their lives in America in good faith.

It’s remarkable how some of the loudest hostility toward legal immigrants comes from people whose own families once benefited from America’s immigration system.
America became a global leader because generations of immigrants were allowed to study, work, innovate, build businesses, advance science, and become part of this country. Pulling the ladder up after succeeding only weakens the very system that created so much prosperity.
Many people suffering under the #USCISpause are highly vetted legal immigrants in STEM, medicine, AI, engineering, and research who followed every rule and simply want the same opportunity previous generations were given.

My grandmother came to this country as an infant. She built her life here. She eventually got her green card and became part of the fabric of America, like millions before and after her.
That path is what Trump and his administration are now trying to slam shut.
The Trump administration just announced that immigrants already living here who apply for a green card will need to leave the country first, with rare exceptions. That means scientists, doctors, teachers, founders, students, and families could be forced to abandon their lives in America and wait years abroad.
America was built by immigrants like my grandmother. We are stronger because of them, not in spite of them.

For over 70 years, adjusting your status to a Green Card from within the US has been the standard pathway to achieve permanent legal status.
Now Trump wants to change that solely to inflict damage on our immigrants and mixed families by forcing people to wait often years in their home country.
This is a stupid as it is cruel. And it solely targets legal immigrants.
We won’t let this happen.
