Domainer or Investor?

Whenever someone asks what I do, I don’t hesitate—I just say I’m a #domain investor. It sounds clean, maybe even a little intriguing.

Then comes the follow-up: "What’s a domain?"

So I keep it simple: “You’ve heard of Microsoft .com or Apple .com, right?”
They say yes… and just like that, it clicks.

What I actually do? A bit of everything. I research, I strategize, and I hunt for names. Sometimes they’re real words, sometimes completely made up—but they all have potential. I buy them, hold onto them like stocks, and eventually sell them to the right buyer on the secondary market.

That buyer could be a company building a brand—or another investor who sees the value.

Now, if I say, “I’m a domainer,” I usually get a blank look. It’s just not a very clear term.

Which makes me think… stock traders don’t call themselves speculators—they say investors. It sounds more intentional. More credible.

So what about us?
Domainer… or domain investor?

I’ll stick with domain investor.
