SOLUTIONS, CALLS FOR UNITY
…As Governor Mutfwang assures Plateau will overcome terror attacks
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured the people of Plateau State of renewed federal intervention to restore peace, strengthen public confidence, and deploy advanced surveillance technology to enhance intelligence gathering and track down criminal elements.
The President gave this assurance during a condolence visit to Jos, following recent attacks that claimed the lives of innocent citizens in the Angwan Rukuba community. The visit also afforded him the opportunity to meet directly with victims and grieving families across the affected areas.
Addressing stakeholders, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incidents and emphasized the importance of unity and collective responsibility in addressing the security challenges confronting the state. He reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the top priority of his administration.
Extending his condolences to the bereaved families, the President stated:
"Only God can give you true comfort and restore your joy; no amount of compensation can replace what you have lost. As a government, we will do our best to support you. The best solution is for Jos to return to the peaceful and harmonious city we once knew."
The President further rekindled hope among the people of Plateau, affirming his administration’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and driving prosperity. "We were elected to deliver prosperity, inclusiveness, and hope for all. I do not want to return here merely to console; I want to return to a peaceful and thriving Plateau," he added.

He also directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, to compile comprehensive data on affected individuals to facilitate targeted government support.
The President urged political, religious, and community leaders to work together in unity, stressing that:
"Lasting peace will only be achieved when security is treated as a shared responsibility."
Reinforcing the administration’s commitment to modern security solutions, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, disclosed plans to deploy surveillance infrastructure across Plateau State, beginning with Jos. "This is not an empty promise. We are deploying AI-enabled camera networks that have already proven effective in other parts of the country," he stated.
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, reiterated his administration’s determination to restore peace and stability, noting that ongoing collaboration with the Federal Government will strengthen local efforts.
"We are resolute in rebuilding trust within our communities and restoring Plateau’s spirit of peace and hospitality," he affirmed.
Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the President’s visit and assured him of the state government’s commitment to ending decades of violence. He acknowledged that previous administrations—including those of Sen. Joshua Chibi Dariye, J
Sen. Jonah David Jang, and Sen. Simon Lalong—also faced similar challenges.
He emphasized that his administration is leading efforts to unify stakeholders in order to decisively confront terrorism in the state.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, highlighted the importance of strengthening trust between communities and security agencies to curb further attacks. JUBILATION AS GOVERNOR MUTFWANG FLAGS OFF ROAD NETWORK PROJECT LINKING JOS NORTH, JOS EAST, AND JOS SOUTH LGAs
Residents and commuters in Jos North, Jos East, and Jos South Local Government Areas have received a major boost as the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Friday flagged off the construction of a strategic road network at Haske Gwafan and Kwang A & B.
The project will link key institutions including Zion High School, Marysol Hospital, and Omega School across the three local government areas.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at Haske Quarters along Fobur Road in Jos North on March 13, 2026, marks the commencement of a significant infrastructure intervention aimed at improving connectivity, easing transportation challenges, and stimulating economic activities within the affected communities.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the project goes beyond road construction, describing it as a deliberate effort by his administration to strengthen unity and improve the living conditions of residents across the Jos metropolis.
According to the Governor, the road network will serve as a strategic link between the three urban local government areas, fostering stronger social and economic ties among the people.
“By the time this road is completed, nobody will notice the boundary between Jos East, Jos North, and Jos South. It is not just about constructing a road; it is about uniting our people, uplifting communities, and making life better for our citizens,” he stated.
Governor Mutfwang expressed optimism that the project would significantly improve access to residential estates, schools, and healthcare facilities in the area, while also creating opportunities for businesses to thrive.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Sylvanus Dongtoe, described the project as a clear demonstration of the commitment of the “Time Is Now” administration to delivering the dividends of democracy through strategic infrastructure development.
Dongtoe noted that communities within the project corridor have faced serious accessibility challenges for years, particularly during the rainy season. He stressed that the new road network would greatly improve access to key institutions such as Zion High School, Marysol Hospital, and Omega School.
He further disclosed that the project spans approximately 17 kilometres within the city centre and has been awarded to Jecon Construction Nigeria Limited, a reputable construction firm with the expertise and capacity to deliver quality infrastructure within the stipulated timeframe.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area expressed appreciation to the Governor, describing the road project as a long-awaited intervention that will bring relief to residents who have endured severe hardship due to poor road conditions.
He thanked the Governor Mutfwang for the intervention and assured him of the unwavering commitment of the residence of Jos North LGA. He said the governor has demonstrated strong desire to improving the living conditions of the people and described the flagged off as a memorable birthday gift to the three local government areas.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Jos North Traditional Council and Ujah Anaguta, Johnson Jairo Magaji II, commended the administration for its people-oriented policies and pledged the continued support of the traditional institution for government programmes aimed at advancing the development of Plateau State.
In his goodwill message, the Managing Director of Jecon Construction Nigeria Limited, Mr. Joseph Ezekiel, thanked the Plateau State Government for the confidence reposed in the company and assured that the firm would deliver the project in accordance with the specifications and timeline contained in the contract agreement.

Today, as the world commemorates International Women’s Day, we join the global community in celebrating the extraordinary contributions, resilience, and leadership of women across Plateau State, Nigeria, and the world.
This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” reminds us of a powerful truth: when societies invest in women, through education, opportunity, mentorship, and leadership, the entire society prospers. Empowering women is not merely a moral imperative; it is a strategic investment in sustainable development, economic growth, and social progress.
Across our communities, women continue to serve as pillars in families, catalysts of innovation, builders of institutions, and champions of peace and development. From entrepreneurship and governance to community leadership and social impact, their contributions remain central to the progress of our State and our nation.

RESPONSE STATEMENT
IN DEFENSE OF STRUCTURED LEADERSHIP AND RESPONSIBLE GOVERNANCE IN JOS NORTH
While civic vigilance is healthy in any democracy, it is important that criticism of leadership remains fair, contextual, and grounded in facts rather than perceptions shaped by political discomfort or unmet personal expectations. The recent statement issued under the name Jos North Civic Watch presents a one-sided narrative that does not accurately reflect the realities of governance under the leadership Barr. Jay Kay Chris.
First, strong leadership should not be mistaken for authoritarianism. Jos North Local Government operates within clearly defined constitutional and legal frameworks. The Chairman does not govern outside the law, nor does he possess unchecked powers. Decisions taken by the Chairman are guided by financial realities, administrative procedures, and statutory responsibilities. Leadership requires coordination and direction, not perpetual consensus driven by political convenience.
Second, the claim that Councillors are treated as subordinates ignores the fundamental structure of local government administration. While Councillors are elected representatives, the executive responsibility of policy implementation rests with the Chairman and the executive arm. This is not personal rule; it is institutional order. Expecting a fragmented decision-making process in a resource-constrained local government would result in paralysis, not progress. On the issue of constituency allowances, it is misleading to frame financial prudence as punishment or control. Jos North, like many local governments, operates under severe fiscal constraints. Allocations must be spread across salaries, infrastructure, security support, sanitation, health, and education. Disbursements to Councillors are determined by available funds, not by an intention to “starve” representatives. Responsible governance sometimes means making difficult but necessary financial decisions.
Furthermore, visible ward-level projects are not the sole measure of effective governance. Many interventions under the current administration focus on long-term institutional stability, improved service delivery, and administrative reforms that may not always be immediately visible but are essential for sustainable development.
The suggestion that governance in Jos North has become “personalized” overlooks the numerous consultations, statutory meetings, and engagements that continue to take place. Disagreement within government is normal; however, disagreement does not automatically translate to oppression. Leadership is not weakened by firmness, nor is democracy endangered by discipline.
Finally, questioning leadership is a civic right, but framing governance challenges as “democratic decay” without acknowledging constraints, reforms, and ongoing efforts risks misleading the public and eroding trust unnecessarily. Jos North is not in crisis; it is navigating the complex realities of grassroots governance in a difficult economic climate.
Barr. Jay Kay Chris remains committed to accountability, institutional order, and the collective progress of Jos North. Constructive criticism is welcome, but it must be balanced, responsible, and aimed at solutions rather than sensational conclusions.
PRESS STATEMENT ON THE ASSAULT OF PEPSA STAFF DURING SANITATION SUPERVISION AT BUKURU MARKET
The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) strongly condemns the assault and attack on its staff during a routine sanitation supervision exercise at Bukuru Market, particularly the Hamaz section.
PEPSA wishes to state clearly that it is completely unacceptable for any individual or group to attack officers who are lawfully carrying out their legitimate duties. Our personnel are deployed daily to ensure a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for all; often including the difficult task of evacuating refuse generated by the same public they serve. It is therefore both wrong and unjustifiable for a PEPSA staff to be assaulted simply for doing his/her job.
The staff in question was attacked because he cautioned an individual who was improperly throwing refuse. This act of violence is not only an affront to the Agency, but a direct threat to public order, public health, and the collective effort to maintain environmental sanitation across Plateau State.
PEPSA further notes that this unfortunate incident occurred despite sustained engagement with Bukuru Market leadership and stakeholders. The Agency has consistently carried out sensitization and awareness campaigns in the market and has also provided free polythene bags to market users to encourage proper waste collection and packaging, instead of dumping refuse on the median of the road and other illegal points. These efforts were intended to promote cooperation and compliance, not confrontation.
PEPSA remains committed to upholding the “polluter pays” principle and ensuring that individuals and organizations take responsibility for the waste they generate. We will not tolerate acts of intimidation, obstruction, or violence against our officers in the discharge of their lawful duties.
We call on market leaders, stakeholders, and the general public to cooperate with PEPSA in maintaining a clean and healthy Plateau State. Environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility, and protecting those who enforce sanitation laws is essential to safeguarding public health.
Signed

Earlier, Guest Preacher, Rev. Dunka Gomwalk, focused the scriptural reading on 1Peter chapter 3:1. He charged the couple to see marriage as a ministry and a shared assignment to nurture each other’s destiny. “You don’t come into marriage for what you can get, but to serve each other’s destiny,” he said.
Rev. Gomwalk emphasized mutual submission and understanding, stressing that Christian marriage should model the relationship between Christ and the Church. “Husbands must dwell with their wives according to knowledge. You must become a lifetime student of your spouse,” he noted.
The solemnization was attended by senior clergy, political leaders, traditional rulers, members of the National Assembly, and other dignitaries, including Dame Pauline Tallen, a former Deputy Governor of Plateau State.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG EXPRESSES CONFIDENCE IN TINUBU’S REFORMS AS NIGERIA’S FOREIGN RESERVES GAIN MOMENTUM, ASSURES OF PLATEAU’S PROSPERITY
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has expressed strong confidence in the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing them as critical steps toward sustainable national recovery and effective service delivery.
Governor Mutfwang stated this on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, while receiving members of the Renewed Hope City Boys Movement on a courtesy visit at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
The Governor reaffirmed his endorsement of the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that recent indicators, particularly the steady growth of Nigeria’s foreign reserves, reflect renewed investor confidence and gradual economic stabilization.
Governor Mutfwang described the emergence of the movement as timely, signaling the commencement of grassroots political mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections. He commended the group for its early organization and emphasized that effective politics must be people-centered and service-driven.
“All politics is local. It must be rooted in relevance and service to the people, not mere symbolism,” the Governor stated.
Governor Mutfwang reiterated his confidence in the policies and initiatives of President Tinubu, acknowledging that while some reforms have been difficult, they were necessary for long-term national survival. He described the removal of fuel subsidy as inevitable, noting that the policy disproportionately benefitted racketeers rather than ordinary Nigerians.
“Whenever you are confronted with a difficult situation as a leader, you must be prepared to take tough decisions,” he said.
Highlighting positive economic developments, the Governor noted that Nigeria’s foreign reserves have risen to appreciable levels, helping to ease foreign exchange constraints and restore confidence among international investors who previously faced challenges repatriating funds.
“We are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel,” Governor Mutfwang remarked.
While acknowledging that the effects of macroeconomic reforms may take time to fully reflect at the grassroots, he observed that recent reductions in food prices point to tangible progress. He added that government efforts were ongoing to address losses suffered by farmers and strengthen food security nationwide.
Governor Mutfwang further disclosed that President Tinubu has demonstrated keen interest in the peace, stability, and development of Plateau State, particularly in the area of livestock development. He revealed that modalities were being finalized to leverage Plateau State’s comparative advantage in livestock production, noting that the sector would drive wealth creation, empower youth and women, and boost the production of beef and dairy products to meet growing demand.
The Governor emphasized that the scope and depth of reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration underscore the importance of continuity, describing support for a second term as a worthy and strategic cause. He congratulated the Renewed Hope City Boys Movement for aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda and assured them of the state government’s shared commitment to its success.
Earlier, the State Director of the City Boys Movement, Prince David Daser, speaking on behalf of the Grand Patron, Barr. Seyi Tinubu; the Director-General, Hon. Francis Shoga; and the national leadership of the movement, explained that the City Boys Movement is a youth-driven, progressive platform committed to grassroots mobilization, political inclusion, and leadership development.
He noted that the movement has functional structures across all local government areas, wards, and polling units in Plateau State.
Prince Daser announced plans to host a major Plateau State City Boys Movement Conference in February 2026 and assured the Governor of the movement’s loyalty
