@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu Unfortunately discrimination is very prominent in athletics! Many African American athletes are only seen as objects and not people. They don’t get to pursue academic careers they want to because their sport in seen as their only option #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
It’s nothing new for African American athletes to not receive the same opportunities as others. It’s actually sad how they are only seen as objects to work and make the university money. No one cares about their academic success and its hinders their growth #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu I agree that student athletes would be at peace and have less mental struggles if they didn’t have to worry about their finances while playing a sport. The NCAA is very greedy and selfish to be talking advantage of athletes like this!#ucr150@abhornUCRedu
It’s really sad how much money runs our society. Money really causes people to become greedy and selfish. That is exactly what the NCAA has become by profiting off of athletes while telling them they can’t make money off of their own NIL #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
@Alicia_Rendon11@abhornUCRedu I agree if non athletes students can transfer as they please then why can’t athletes do it as well. It’s because the NCAA and schools just want money and only care about their personal gain. No one really cares about the well being of athletes and it’s sad #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
The NCAA transfer rules need to be amended because they are too restrictive to athletes. The rules give coaches too much control and power over athletes careers and financial decisions. Athletes should be able to leave and come as they go! #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
@lisscastrom@annaaacha I agree that coaches need to be more mindful and aware. The stigma behind concussions and ignoring the severity of them needs to stop. Athletes could lose their lives and careers due to this lack of caution #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
Trainers need to take concussion education more seriously. By zooming through it and not taking time on the matter, could potentially be the cause of an athletes death. You never know what can happen and that’s why it should be taken seriously from the jump #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
@Chesweetheart@annaaacha I agree! It’s sad that they’re blaming women for simply wanting to enjoy the sport they love. The world is centered around men and something needs to change! #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
men’s sports are always more in important. even in our modern times with gender equity, they always receive better treatment. at UCR the men’s sports receive better clothes, money, food, and resources then the women’s sports and yet we play better than them!#ucr150@abhornUCRedu
@BuclingBum17@annaaacha yes, it still works like that today. as a college athlete myself if I don’t do certain activities my scholarship can be revoked. if they don’t like my performance they can also lower my amount each year. the pressure is always there #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
Scholarships provide athletes with a free education but also allows universities to control them. Athletes can’t pursue certain majors and have the pressures of being perfect or their scholarships could be revoked. Scholarships mainly benefit universities #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
@cjime074@cjime074 I agree. Athletes need to be payed for their time and efforts seeing as they are the reason the university is bringing in money. The NCAA is taking advantage of athletes and it’s isn’t right!
#ucr150@abhornUCRedu
A lot of athletes are only attending college because of their scholarship. They have no desire for an education and are solely focused on athletics which hinders their futures seeing as it is extremely hard to become professional in any sport #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
@ChunkiBarbie@ChunkiBarbie I agree! I think the NCAA realized that students would continue to fight back which would cost them money, so it was more effective to create laws to get them some help rather than keep causing the organization problems and costing them money #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
Schools only change unless it is hurting them.San Jose athletes stopped the racial injustices only because they lost the school money.Instead of universities wanting equality for all, they had to be threatened to insure all students received equal treatment #ucr150@abhornUCRedu
