Delhi | On the basis of specific intelligence, officers of Customs at IGI Airport, New Delhi, booked a case involving the smuggling of gold in paste form against an Indian male passenger who arrived from Sharjah by Flight No. IX-136 on 01.06.2026.
The passenger was intercepted at the arrival bus gate upon arrival. Simultaneously, a follow-up operation was launched onboard the aircraft to locate and recover the suspected contraband. During a thorough rummaging of the aircraft, Customs officers recovered two black-coloured pouches weighing approximately 3,550 grams from beneath Seat No. 22C, located immediately in front of Seat No. 23C occupied by the suspect passenger.
Subsequent extraction and refining of the seized material resulted in the recovery of 2,755 grams of gold. The recovered gold was appraised at a tariff value of Rs 3,80,48,523.
The recovered gold has been seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger has been arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.
Further investigation is underway.

The Customs Officers at IGI Airport, New Delhi, intercepted two Thailand national passengers arriving from Bangkok by flight no. AI-2356 dated 22.05.2026 after they crossed the Customs Green Channel.
Acting on specific profiling inputs and suspicious travel indicators, Customs officers subjected the baggage of both passengers to detailed examination.
Subsequently, a thorough physical examination of the baggage was conducted, which resulted in the recovery of six (06) vacuum-sealed packets suspected to contain Hydroponic Weed (Ganja). Out of the total recovery, four packets weighing approximately 29 kilograms were recovered from the baggage of one passenger, while two packets weighing approximately 19 kilograms were recovered from the baggage of the second passenger. The total quantity of the suspected narcotic substance recovered in the case was approximately 47.805 kilograms(Net weight). The market value of the recoverd NDPS substance is approx 48 Cr.
This is one of the highest seizures in recent times at IGI airport, Delhi.

In a major drug haul at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, Customs officers have intercepted two passengers arriving from Bangkok and seized nearly 35 kilograms of high-grade hydroponic marijuana, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 34.93 crore.
The operation, carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs at IGI Airport, was triggered by APIS (Advance Passenger Information System) profiling.
