Burkina Faso has reportedly earned around $18 billion from gold production since Captain Ibrahim Traoré took power in 2022, as the country intensifies efforts to gain greater control over its natural resources.
In 2024, the West African nation took back two gold mines previously run by a British company and stepped up local gold processing.
The country has opened its first industrial gold refinery and a local processing plant as part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on foreign firms and retain more value from its mining sector within Burkina Faso.
Burkina Faso ranks among Africa’s top gold producers, consistently outputting more than 50 tonnes annually in recent years.
Gold remains the cornerstone of the economy, contributing a substantial portion of export revenue and government income.
"Maraga and myself could be the drivers. But we are not more important than the vehicle. The vehicle is the agenda. Kenya doesn’t need a messiah, it needs a mission. The agenda is the vehicle and leaders are only drivers."

@CassandraRules@JDVance JD, isn't it right though that uranium enrichment up to 60% actually does have civilian uses like radioisotopes for medical imaging? And that Iran has had a huge radiomedicine industry for half a decade and is in fact a leading player contributing globally in the field?
"Chagua na ubongo, sio tumbo!"– Martha Karua @MarthaKarua urges Kenyans to make informed choices in the next election.
Will Kenyans break free from tribal and money-driven politics? Is it time for a new leadership direction?
At the beginning of the year, I made a call for us to protect the sanctity and dignity of every Kenyan life. It has come to us that two persons known to have been abducted at Mlolongo have been found dead. We condole with the families of Martin Mwau and Justus Musyimi and stand with the families of those still missing. May God greatly comfort you and give you courage to push towards justice. I reiterate my deep condemnation of the continued violence against young Kenyans in the form of the abhorrent acts of killing, maiming, and abduction. These continued crimes are a stain to our collective conscience as a nation, and we are all duty bound to say #EnoughisEnough, #EndAbductionsNow! We cannot remain silent. These crimes are a profound betrayal of the future of our nation and the sanctity of the Constitution. A leadership that abets a culture of killings and human rights violations jeopardizes its legitimacy. We cannot be lulled into complacency in the face of such assaults to our shared humanity. Every Kenyan and particularly our youth, deserves to live in safety and security and to pursue their dreams. I stand in unity with all Kenyans of good conscience and call for the immediate release of all young people who are still being held incommunicado. I call for accountability and justice for the victims and their loved ones. Let us work together to build a society that upholds the rule of law, constitutionalism and integrity. May the Almighty comfort the bereaved and their families. God Bless Kenya

Today i will personally visit the auditor general’s office. I would like to talk to her about corruption amongst the officers doing audit on the ground and those holding positions of responsibility in regional offices. 90% of corruption is hidden by auditors. What we see in the report is only 10%. In Isiolo almost every corruption scandal and theft has been swept under the rag by auditors.
