I congratulated Assistant Secretary of State Frank Garcia on formally assuming the leadership of the Bureau of African Affairs at a Diplomatic Corps Coffee event hosted at the State Department. I appreciated our brief exchange during the event and look forward to strong engagement, especially in implementing the outcomes of the Bilateral Structured Dialogue and the Bishoftu Airport Financing Roadshow.
Wishing you every success in your new appointment.
Good to see current US Admin finally recognize Ethiopia's geostrategic importance. US shouldn't choose between Egypt or Ethiopia, as both can be valued partners. If Ethiopia settles domestic problems its value grows exponentially!

Today, we were honored to have productive and wide-ranging meetings with the Ethiopian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos @GHessebon , for the U.S. Ethiopia Bilateral Structured Dialogue. We had constructive conversations about the Nile River and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. We also discussed international efforts to facilitate a humanitarian truce and achieve durable peace in Sudan, as well as our shared commitment to promoting regional stability, including Red Sea maritime security. Today was also an important opportunity for discussions on bilateral economic and commercial issues, including promoting U.S. investments.
Today, Under Secretary for Political Affairs Allison Hooker @UnderSecStateP and Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timotheos @GHessebon formalized the Bilateral Structured Dialogue Framework, which will guide future cooperation. The signing of this document renews and strengthens the relationship between the two countries. This dialogue advanced the President’s goal of expanding U.S. commercial access to Africa while setting the stage for future engagements.
Met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister @GHessebon today to discuss expanding our security partnership and increasing commercial opportunities between our two nations.
