Coffee shops (kopitiams) in Singapore is an extremely profitable AND sustainable business

problem is that it’s capital intensive and it’s also, getting consolidated by the rich

While I’m not against capitalism, it does erode the cultural diversity of Singapore’s kopitiam culture

At some point, every coffeeshop will have the same “feel” or vibe to it with the same brands selling subpar food

Though this isn’t as prevalent yet given that some of my favourite coffee shops still exist (Hougang 401, MacPherson Prawn Mee etc), I do see some of my favourite stalls disappearing due to heightened rents from corporate owned coffee shops
