Kallas starts her sentence with "Under international law..."

Yet, under the entire genocide in Gaza, Europe completely ignored international law. When the US attacked Venezuela, EU leaders explicitly stated that this was not the time to discuss international law. They repeated that when the US attacked Iran.

But now, Kallas returns to opening her sentence with "international law."

International law is not an optional feature of international relations that you invoke only when it suits you.

Kent and I don't agree on much, but he is right:

First, the Omani FM came out and revealed that there was a deal on the table that met Trump's demands, but that he instead chose war.

And now, it is revealed that the British National Security Advisor was also part of the talks, and he too attests to the fact that A) there was no imminent threat from Iran, B) Trump could have gotten a surprisingly good deal if he stuck to diplomacy.

But the perhaps most damning quote in the story comes at the end, attributed to an unnamed diplomat:

“We regarded Witkoff and Kushner as Israeli assets that dragged a president into a war he wants to get out of.”

On one side you have people like:

For those looking forward to a Pahlavi government run by Israel, worth looking at the previous Shah's achievment. His secret police, SAVAK, was one of the most innovative at the time. Backed fully by the CIA they tried out new forms of torture and boasted about their man-sized toaster. Political prisoners were put in this toaster, one at a time and it was switched on so that human fonts and backs could be 'toasted' at one go. Many died. Others were maimed for life. I spoke with other prisoners who had been made to watch this torture so they would break. Some did. And many Iranians remember those days. They won't be easily persuaded to accept another Pahlavi. It was in any case a two-rulers dynasty created by Britain and sustained by the United States.

Have heard from an Iranian friend that her partner in Teheran has sent her a message. He is a leftist and is telling her that the US/Israelis are targeting a number of known leftists homes in Teheran and elsewhere in an attempt to make sure there's no opposition to their favoured candidate once they destroy the regime. What this reveals is the degree of penetration by Mossad in Iran. What it also means is that this is not going to be an easy occupation for the US and its Israeli buddies.

Trump's ICE militias have just executed a 37-year old protestor dead in Minneapolis. The killer fired ten bullets to make sure the execution was successful. The Governor has ordered the National Guard into the city. Trump should be impeached and removed before his people kill more innocents. And a nation-wide general strike is needed to prevent more killings. The US ships heading to Iran to 'defend civil liberties' should return home. They're needed.
