We are watching a weather system that could bring historic heavy rain to Western Kentucky and West Tennessee. Up to 12 inches of rain is possible in the most impacted areas over a 4-5 day period starting today.
Before the rain starts, we're releasing nearly 1 million gallons of water per second from Kentucky Dam on the Tennessee River to create storage in the lake - which is expected to rise near summer pool elevations later this week.
We are coordinating with the @USACELRD to help reduce potential flooding on the lower Ohio River. Stay tuned to local news media and the @NWS if you live in the impacted area.

Kentucky Dam, the last of nine dams on the Tennessee River, is spilling almost 2 million gallons of water per second as we move tremendous amounts of water through the system after days of rain.
We are working with the US Army Corps of Engineers to help reduce the flood crest this week on the lower Ohio River.
