VIDEO | Glasgow: The first person judoka Asmita Dey wanted to tell about her Commonwealth Games gold was the one person she no longer could do it. Her father, a cycle mechanic who earned barely Rs 300 a day and raised his family in a mud house in a small village in Tripura, died of a brain stroke seven months ago.

On Friday, as the 23-year-old became the first Indian judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold in the women's 48kg category, the medal felt as much his as hers.

"When my father passed away, I thought everything had finished because he was the one who supported me," Asmita said, struggling to hold back tears after her historic triumph.

For a few moments, the celebrations gave way to memories of the man who had carried her dream long before it became India's dream.

"I am from a very small village in Tripura. People there don't dream this big. But Papa always supported me," she said.

Sonam Wangchuk ends his fast after 26 days upon getting assurance from the government and members of parliament of all political parties that the issue of accountability in the failing examination system will be discussed on the floors of the Indian Parliament. The government also gave assurance that families of suicide victims in the recent NEET examination paper leak will be given adequate compensation and that there will be no cases registered against the peacefully protesting students and youths.

मैं जानता हूँ कि पेपर लीक कोई मामूली विषय नहीं है। लाखों विद्यार्थी और उनके अभिभावकों के लिए बहुत ही पीड़ादायक है। और इसलिए, पेपर लीक की घटना से अब तक पिछले ढाई महीनों में अनेक कदम उठाए गए। गुनहगारों को पकड़ा गया है, वे जेल में पड़े हैं।

सरकार ने अपनी पूरी शक्ति का उपयोग करके कम से कम समय में 22 लाख विद्यार्थियों के एग्जाम हो जाएं, इसका प्रबंध किया। और अभी पांच-छह दिन पहले 19 तारीख को रिजल्ट भी आ गया। और देश भर में उत्तीर्ण हो गए विद्यार्थियों की खुशियों की खबरें भी आ रही हैं।

लेकिन हम यहां पर संतोष मानने वाले लोगों में से नहीं हैं, और इसलिए मैंने आज फास्ट-ट्रैक कोर्ट के लिए विभागों को निर्देश दिए थे। आज विभागों ने लगातार मेहनत करके देर रात मुझे मसौदा भी दे दिया। फास्ट-ट्रैक कोर्ट और कठोर सजा के प्रावधान वाले इस मसौदे पर कल कैबिनेट में चर्चा होगी। कैबिनेट के साथियों के सुझाव के बाद उसका अंतिम रूप दिया जाएगा। और सोमवार से संसद का दूसरा सप्ताह शुरू हो रहा है, तब जल्द-से-जल्द इस बिल को सदन में पारित कराने का प्रयास किया जाएगा।

The Leader of the Opposition should know his responsibility as well as his rights. Being in the Opposition does not give anyone the licence to ignore facts and mislead the nation.

Paper leaks were rampant for years, including under @INCIndia governments. Rajasthan under the @ashokgehlot51 government was a recent reminder of how deeply this menace had taken root.

The Modi Government has chosen reform over rhetoric. strengthening laws, introducing systemic safeguards, and now fast-track courts to ensure swift justice.

Parliament is the forum to seek answers. When the Government was ready for a discussion, you chose disruption and street theatrics over debate. Students deserve solutions, not political grandstanding.

विपक्ष में बैठने से तथ्यों को तोड़-मरोड़कर देश को गुमराह करने का लाइसेंस नहीं मिल जाता। विपक्ष के नेता को क्या यह सत्य नहीं पता है कि कांग्रेस ने ही पेपर लीक को समस्या को पनपाया और इसकी जड़ों को गहरा किया। राजस्थान में अशोक गहलोत सरकार के दौरान लगातार सामने आए पेपर लीक के प्रकरण इस विफलता की खुली गवाही हैं। कांग्रेस शासित राज्यों की सरकारें युवाओं के भविष्य से खिलवाड़ करती रहीं, जबकि मोदी जी की सरकार ने शोर-शराबे के बजाय कार्रवाई का रास्ता चुना है। कड़े कानून बनाए, व्यवस्था को मजबूत किया और अब फास्ट-ट्रैक अदालतों के माध्यम से दोषियों को शीघ्र और कठोर सजा सुनिश्चित करने का भी निर्णय लिया है।
सवाल पूछने के लिए संसद से बड़ा कोई मंच नहीं है। सरकार चर्चा के लिए तैयार थी, लेकिन विपक्ष ने बहस से भागकर उपद्रव की राजनीति को चुना। ‘भारत के भविष्य’ के साथ राजनीति करने वालों को यह याद रखना चाहिए कि युवाओं को कोरे नारे नहीं, निष्पक्ष परीक्षाएं और न्याय चाहिए।
