One step I would take to change the world would be to invest in fair trade products, like coffee or jewelry. Another step would be donating my time and money to non-profit organizations who are dedicated to helping the serious issue in our world @weller_world#ucchangestheworld
My personal favorite presentation this year in my #ucchangestheworld class was Josephine's Clinic. I think the work they do for women is so important and much needed, and they operate right here in OTR, Cincinnati! @JosephinesCincy
Another thing I found interesting in the @LivingonOne documentary was the system Anthony made with his friends to save money. It is incredibly hard for them to save up money, so they decided to all work together to help one another, which I found heartwarming. #ucchangestheworld
One thing I found interesting in the @LivingonOne documentary was their trip to the market. They went with $15 and showed how quickly that money was spent and how expensive things were. It was really eye opening and put things into perspective. #ucchangestheworld
@JVCnation (Jesuit Volunteer Corps) works with young adults and matches them to a 1 to 2 year long service trip, and they work in 6 countries, but mainly operate in the US. These people do amazing work! #ucchangestheworld
@MagnifiedGiving is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching students philanthropy, but their real mission is to touch the minds and hearts of their students and hope their work passes down for generations :) #ucchangestheworld
The @AmeriCorps works right here in the US to improve the daily lives of so many people, and work directly with many non-profit organizations! They estimate about 40k communities served with around 270k volunteers #ucchangestheworld
One thing I found inspiring from the @PeaceCorps presentation is that they work to make a global impact that is "hands-on, grass-root driven, and lasting." The awesome folks in the #PeaceCorps make lasting changes to better the lives of those who need it most #ucchangestheworld
One thing I found interesting from the @EWB_UC was local outreach. They do work with Habitat for Humanity (local builds and domestic trips), High School outreach (projects and learning), and local volunteering (trash pickups and marathon course guides) #ucchangestheworld
I was very inspired by the Ten Thousand Villages presentation and am feeling eager to volunteer! They deal with #fairtrade and I learned the importance of investing in fair trade: "putting people and the environment first." @Villages#ucchangestheworld
Did you know that kids can miss out on learning to read because of their vision and they don't have access to glasses or seeing aids? This can make it hard for them to succeed in life. @OneSightOrg is dedicated to helping families get the eye care they need! #ucchangestheworld
One thing that really stuck out to me from Dr. Chris Lewis's presentation was the quote "I went hoping to change the world, but the world ended up changing me." We all need to truly see and hear the world before we go about changing it @VillageLifeOP#ucchangestheworld
I was shocked to realize how inaccessible our world is for those with disabilities, and Sara Whitestone's presentation opened my eyes. Sara Spins is an organization dedicated to raising money for assistive devices for students with disabilities @sara_spins#ucchangestheworld
Another interesting fact I learned from Anthony Russell's presentation is the number for refugees globally is 25.9 million. This is something I think more attention should be brought to this issue because that number is startling! @YaleSPH@uofcincyalumni#ucchangestheworld
One thing I found interesting from Anthony Russell's presentation was the Lesotho Poultry Project. It is meant to generate income and improve nutrition in this very impoverished country @YaleSPH@uofcincyalumni#ucchangestheworld
I was inspired by the presentation about @GlobeMedAtUC, who are students that work to improve the health of those who live in poverty. This is so important and a very serious issue, and its inspiring to see such young people working to help it! #ucchangestheworld
The water crisis today is a big issue that doesn't get enough attention. Families around the world are struggling, & generosity by donating to the issue will go a long way. It's our job to spread awareness & do what we can to help! @charitywater@weller_world#ucchangestheworld
P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program provides communities with a solution that allows them to clean their drinking water! This is an INCREDIBLE gift because many of them have to drink water with bacteria and dirt everyday @ProcterGamble#ForceForGood#ucchangestheworld
I'm very inspired by the women of the Josephine's Clinic @JosephinesCincy! I hope and encourage others to check out the work these amazing people do, and also learn more about the sex trafficking issue that going on right here in Cincinnati #ucchangestheworld
A Kenyan dies every 2 minutes from an AIDS-related illness. @SOTENI is an organization dedicated to working with the community to prevent and mitigate the effects of the disease. Their main focus is HIV/AIDS, but they also work with other illnesses, like Covid! #ucchangestheworld
