A woman was stabbed to death by a male stranger today in Plympton, SA. Another woman was stabbed and is in hospital. She is the 73rd woman killed this year and the second killed in as many days. He is in custody.

Today, 38-year-old property manager Julie (Julez) Seed was at work in Plympton, South Australia, when a stranger stabbed her. She did not survive. The male accused also stabbed another woman, leaving her seriously injured.
Julie is the 73rd Australian woman killed this year and the fourth woman killed this month. She is the second woman killed in as many days.
Like most women killed this year, Julie's life was stolen by an alleged act of male violence.
Last year we lost 66 women to acts of violence - this year the toll stands at 73. That's seven more deaths and the year has not yet ended.
With such a large number of women killed, we owe it to their families, their communities and to ourselves to have a national royal commission into femicide in Australia. It should examine every violent death of Australian women - including those lost to domestic violence, associate violence and stranger violence so ALL women's lives and deaths are recognised.We need a thorough examination and sustained national conversation about the killing of women and men's violence.
73 women killed this year is 73 too many.
One is too many.

I had hoped we would see out the year with no more women or children killed. Sadly, it is not to be. A man has been arrested after a woman was allegedly stabbed to death at the National Zoo & Aquarium in Canberra. The male has not been charged.
She is the 72nd woman killed this year and the fourth woman lost to violence in December. ❤️

For the 71st time this year, I am writing about a woman killed.
Last night mum-of-four Siva Auvae was at her home in Kallangur, Qld. Her partner stabbed her repeatedly. She ran for help but died in the street. He set her home on fire. He died this morning from injuries sustained in the blaze.
Siva is the 71st Australian woman killed this year and the third woman killed in the past 10 days.
Born on Christmas Day, Siva was just a little over two weeks from her 32nd birthday.
Her youngest child is not yet one.
Siva was a much-loved mum, sister, daughter, friend and member of the Australian-New Zealand community.
Like so many of the women killed over the past 11.5 months, her life was stolen by a male known to her - another victim of Australia's femicide epidemic.

For the second time in two days, I am documenting the face and the name of another Australian woman killed.
This is 85-year-old Maria Dimasi.
On Saturday evening, police found her murdered in her home at Findon, SA.
Her husband is in custody in hospital.
Maria is the 70th Australian woman killed in 2023 and the eighth woman killed since November 16.
Maria was an amazing member of her community and an incredible Aussie. She was a great-grandmother, grandmother and mother. She loved to cook and would often share her dishes and recipes with people in her neighbourhood.
It's reported she was in good health - despite many commentators taking to social media to say her death was some sort of act of 'mercy'.
Hint. Murder is not an act of mercy - It never has been and never will be.
No matter a woman's age or health, she deserves to live her life in peace and to die without violence.
