The government intends to allocate around Rs. 2,000 billion for capital expenditure in the upcoming year, Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
He said the government has also allocated approximately Rs. 1,350 billion for capital expenditure this year.
The Minister made these remarks while attending the inauguration ceremony for the development of 14 carpeted roads in the Kalutara District on Saturday (13) under the Integrated Road Investment Program (iRoad), the government’s main rural and regional road development initiative.
Jayatissa said the programme to develop 14 rural roads in Kalutara is being implemented with funding support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Sri Lankan government.
He also noted that projects worth Rs. 550 million have been approved this year for the development of rural roads in the district under both provincial council and central government funding.
In addition, Rs. 100 million has been allocated for the development of bridges and culverts in Kalutara, while around Rs. 2 billion has been set aside overall for road and related infrastructure development in the district.
The Minister further stated that state revenue had increased significantly in 2025 and 2026, adding that government revenue stood at Rs. 5,500 billion in the previous year.
He also said the country recorded its highest-ever export earnings last year, while foreign remittances have increased and the tourism sector continues to show improvement. (NewsWire)

Officials of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) informed the Committee on Public Finance (CoPF) that government fuel subsidies are expected to end this month.
Responding to questions from CoPF Chairman Dr. Harsha de Silva, CPC officials said no decision has yet been made on a fuel price increase.
De Silva also questioned how the CPC is managing foreign exchange buying amid the recent volatility in the market, adding that there was speculation that the volatility was caused by the CPC.
The disclosures come after President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in May revealed that the government was exploring measures, including fuel pricing adjustments, as part of efforts to reduce fuel consumption.
The President said rising global fuel prices had pushed the local cost of a litre of diesel to Rs. 720.
He noted that the CPC continues to operate at a loss, with the government subsidising about Rs. 100 per litre of diesel to maintain the retail price at Rs. 392. (Newswire)
