A businessman's daughter fell in love with a Muslim boy. She loved him deeply and went against her parents’ wishes.
Worried about her future, her parents discussed the situation with a family friend. Later, both families went on a picnic together.
During the picnic, the friend supported the girl and told her that all religions should be respected and that her parents should consider the marriage.
The girl began to trust this woman and saw her as someone who supported her.
Later, the friend gave her a Marathi translation of Not Without My Daughter and suggested that she read it before marrying someone from a different religious background.
The girl started reading the book around 11:30 PM. A short while later, she came to her friend's room in tears and said she was frightened and no longer wanted to marry him.
The friend still told her to think carefully about whether their love was genuine. She suggested that, if the boy truly loved her, he could consider changing his religion and they could then discuss the marriage with her father.
The girl called the boy and told him about the suggestion. According to the story, he responded with an insulting remark about her.
Those words deeply hurt her. She realized that the person she had loved so much did not see her in the way she had believed.
She decided not to go ahead with the marriage.
