Dear people from outside of Colorado.
Yes. We have a Congresswoman. Who said some things tonight.
She wants you to tweet her name.
And get real mad.
This is what she does.
You don’t have to play along.
Sincerely
Lots of Coloradans
I’m still stuck on this idea: investing in more sleep for climate justice. If everyone in the United States was encouraged to sleep an additional hour or two, the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions could be huge. Like the size of smaller, more sustainable countries huge.
Growing up on a #Kansas farm, I can say, without any doubt, never underestimate a farmer. We in the states may say “Don’t mess with #Texas,” but around the world people are saying “Don’t Mess with #Ukraine.”
There are lots of roots to the problems in our democracy.
One of them is moral & historical: we (& many Allies) take it for granted.
We have to be reminded how precious it is, that its flaws are reason to fight to improve it, not discard it.
Ukrainians are reminding us.2/2
It’s starting to look like the example of Ukrainians’ courage & the response it is catalyzing in the world’s largest democracies might be a historical turning point. Instead of asking “why does a country 6000 miles away matter?” We might find that they saved us from ourselves 1/2
We all owe a great debt to the Ukrainians. They are reminding us why democracy matters. They are reminding us that it is worth fighting for. And they are reminding us that in this era of fake news and alternative facts, the truth still matters.
Colorado’s state pension fund will divest $7.2 million from a Russian bank as part of federal sanctions on Russia President Joe Biden announced this week, according to a spokesperson for the Public Employees’ Retirement Association. https://t.co/2HfZL6u6SQ
As someone born & raised in Odessa for roughly 1/3 of my life, who spent the other 2/3 in America, I know that most people don’t know much about Ukraine - which I get, I have many blind spots, so I thought I’d tweet some little basic things in case it helps make it real 🧵
I keep thinking what it must be to have survived a global pandemic — in which you were told to stay home. To perhaps finally have seen a light at the end of the viral tunnel.
Then to have your country invaded.
I truly hope that I can have a fraction of the bravery of the 13 Ukrainian soldiers who told a Russian warship to "go fuck itself" even though they knew what would happen next.
May their memory be for a blessing.
West Metro was one of dozens of fire agencies that sent firefighters & engines to assist on the #MarshallFire. We've been asked what it was like on the front line. Hear from three West Metro firefighters who fought the fire in a Louisville neighborhood. See what they saw.
