'You have to look beyond the face
to see the person true,
Deep down within my inner space
I am the same as you;
I've counted since that fire burnt
the many lessons I have learnt.
You have to talk to me and not
the skin that holds me in.'
RIP Benjamin: we saw the person true.
We have exciting news. The wonderful @RichardEGrant is stepping into the shoes (or microphone) of the legendary Bernard Cribbins and narrating a series of Wombles short stories on @BBCSounds and @BBCRadio4 over the Christmas period. The stories are based on the original books by Elisabeth Beresford and directed by @JohnnyVegasReal https://t.co/ZkhHUpZEe7
We know there is anxiety following a genetic diagnosis. What support do we provide to support the psychological well-being of people living with inherited colorectal cancer? @lauramongar
Research by @CCLdotORG found teams with high degrees of psychological safety reported higher levels of performance & lower levels of interpersonal conflict. They also found that senior leadership teams reported the greatest differences in their perceived levels of psychological safety: it means that senior teams are the place where creative problem solving is most likely to be squashed & teams fail to collaborate & innovate together to their full potential. They suggest 8 steps for leaders to help create a more psychologically safe workplace:
1. Make psychological safety an explicit priority
2. Facilitate everyone speaking up
3. Establish norms for how failure is handled
4. Create space for new ideas (even wild ones)
5. Embrace productive conflict
6. Pay close attention and look for patterns
7. Make an intentional effort to promote dialogue
8. Celebrate wins

Over my 40 years in the NHS, power was relentlessly moved from doctors to managers. Bureaucracy often placed above patient interest.
Far too many managers are overpaid and underqualified, contributing very little.
My view? Their wages would be better spent on frontline staff.
I'm a huge believer in the importance of mental health, but we have to be very careful not to fall into the trap of overdiagnosis.
There is a worry that we are talking patients into disorders.
A challenging subject which will no doubt attract abuse, but well worth highlighting.

We must strive to cultivate feelings of kindness, compassion, and love for others, viewing our fellow human beings as brothers and sisters, regardless of their race, nationality or religion. A warm heart can bring joy to our own lives and to the lives of those around us.
