This bullshit is some of the most annoying parts of college recruiting. Ask for feedback of your highlight reels and if the school has not even bothered to watch them are just looking to money grab. Period.

DM: I keep getting ID camps emails from power 4 schools saying they are still looking for 2027’s, but then my club coach tells me they are done with 2027’s. Why do they send these emails out then?

#CSTruth Because no school is going to turn away free money. Schools will send out generic blanket statements regarding ID camps and how they are still looking to get you to camp $.

But by now you should know the recruiting timelines and how accelerated the recruiting process is, P4’s are not looking for 2027’s in women’s soccer.

There might be a rare commit here and there you’ll see in D1 for 2027’s but P4’s and most D1’s are 99% done with the 2027 class.

Listen to your club coach. I promise you if it was legit that they wanted you camp with real interest, they would have called your coach already. Save your money and go to an ID camp at a school that actually wants you.

The D1 women's soccer recruiting world is in an absolute frenzy right now.

In a perfect world, I think these two things are both generally true:

-Coaches don't want to commit players at 15/16 years old.

-Players and parents don't want to make one of the biggest decisions of their lives at 15/16 years old.

So why is this happening?

Because flawed recruiting rules, combined with a whole lotta social media hype and pressure, have created an environment where both sides feel like they have to.

Anyone who's coached girls for very long knows how dramatically players can change between sophomore year and the end of junior year. Sometimes physically. Sometimes mentally. Confidence, resilience, work ethic, burnout... all of it becomes much clearer during this incredibly important stage of development.

There will absolutely be some coaches watching players in Seattle this week that they just committed thinking, "Uh oh...did we pull the trigger too early?"

Why do our recruiting rules allow us to have unlimited phone calls, FaceTimes, texts and even deadline players with offers, yet they can't come to campus, meet the people they'll spend four years with, tour the facilities, or have the same conversations in person?

Think about how absurd that is.

Technically, it would seemingly be legal for a recruit and her family to visit campus before August and spend an hours interacting and touring campus together with me on FaceTime while we stood 100 yards apart. But if we put our phones down and had that exact same conversation face-to-face, we'd be violating NCAA rules. Obviously, outside the intent of the rules, but exposes how silly the rules are.

If the goal is for young women to make informed decisions and for coaches to identify the right fits—not just the earliest commitments—then the current system is accomplishing the exact opposite.

There's plenty of criticism right now about coaches pushing kids to commit early and players committing too early. But let's also acknowledge that this environment didn't create itself. When the rules force everyone to operate this way, maybe it's time to stop blaming the participants and start fixing the system.

Maybe our friends at @theIWSOC can help make this a priority.
