@MrsPeterson007 @MrsTamiNeal 1/2 It depends on if you want to be an indie author or traditionally published. There are pros and cons to both. If you have grand plans of making bestseller lists, becoming famous, and want someone else to do the marketing, traditional publishers are the way to go.

@MrsPeterson007 @MrsTamiNeal 2/2 If you just want to make money, have an online presence, & can write a book every 6 wks, you can make an ok living as an indie author. Finding agents is tough, but an agent will help you navigate the process. I'm an indie editor, but I don't have the contacts an agent has 😕

@councilofgeeks Nope. I'm working now as a technical editor 40 hours a week, and I'm still taking in freelance projects for funsies. I find it relaxing to work on something creative or educational after the dry content I read all day.

One thing I always admired about @TamoraPierce is that she wasn't afraid to talk about things like birth control, homosexuality, or other taboo topics back before these were commonplace in #YAfiction. And the more you talk about these things, the more you empower girls.

Alanna has always defied labels. She took the best bits of being a woman and a man, and created her own unique identity. I think the term is 'gender-fluid', though there wasn't a word for this (to my knowledge) when I was writing her.

It kind of depends on content. Fiction is faster to edit than nonfiction, & technical manuscripts take even longer. But for fiction:
Proofreading: 10-15 hrs
Copy editing:15-20 hrs
Developmental editing: 20+ hrs
