Camouflaging that was very automatic or habitual appeared linked with feelings of in-authenticity and impacted on autistic people's identity. Overall it is important to consider how the societal context impacts on autistic people's mental health 6/6
Newly published in @journalautism with @mowenwilliams Catherine Jones and @jrefox12 our meta-ethnography about autistic people's experiences of social camouflaging/masking and how it relates to mental health https://t.co/MV0SMTxqdx 1/6
Camouflaging that involved a lot of self-monitoring lead to more vigilance and anxiety about camouflaging 'failing'. Camouflaging that was very cognitively demanding was more exhausting and contributed to feelings of 'burnout' 5/6
Our new meta-ethnography of camouflaging in autistic people and its links with mental health is out! Thanks to Sarah Field, Catherine Jones, and @jrefox12

Zara was everybody’s friend, daughter, niece, sister, cousin.
Sadly, Zara isn’t the only one who had her life taken at the hands of a stranger. Women should be safe on our streets. We all need to talk about what happened to OUR ZARA:
Powerful tribute from Zara Aleena’s family.

It's International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia. On 17 May 1990 the WHO removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. The pathologisation of human diversity was an example of institutional discrimination & anti-LGBT bias 1/3 #IDAHOBIT2022#IDAHOT2022
I’ve had a busy few weeks (and while I’m v tired) I’ve been really enjoying the variety of my work. Therapy, lots of assessments, & getting stuck into my research project. Reminding me of why I wanted to become a psychologist and this drawing I did a little while ago 🧢 #psyd
A non-verbal black teenager was arrested by the police and detained by the Home Office, who prepared his deportation to Nigeria.
But he’s a British citizen, who has never left Britain and was missing from a Kent hospital.
How is that anything but horrific racism?
