It's a wrap on day 1 of #bigskyliteracysummit. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hi ๐ at the @OxEdAssessment table. It's fantastic to speak to so many educators who are passionate about supporting children to achieve their full potential #sor#orallanguage#literacy
It's the final morning of #bigskyliteracysummit! Make sure you stop by @OxEdAssessment table in the upper atrium to get your passport stamp and chat about how we could help you to upskill your teaching faculty and boost your students' #orallanguage and #reading skills
Also, children learn new language skills best when they can use their strongest language system, so educators should adjust to children's language variations, not vice versa - "we're not trying to change the way people talk, we're trying to teach them to read".
Stand out points for me - children whose community dialect is different from lang. of instruction experience increased cognitive load when learning to read/comprehend text, so they absolutely can learn but will need more time and exposure.
