Right after performing a land acknowledgement for Indigenous peoples, Labor Premier Peter Malinauskas makes a case for replacing the entire population of Australia with migrants because native born Australians are apparently too much of a fiscal burden.
''Here's the ripping beauty of skilled migrants: they arrive job-ready at relatively low cost. A couple of years ago, federal Treasury estimated that the average Australian-born resident โ Aussies born here โ has a lifetime net cost to public budgets of $85,000. Net cost. Whereas average skilled migrants deliver a net $198,000 benefit to public budgets over their lifetime in this country. For a single primary skilled migrant, that number rises to a lifetime surplus of $415,000 net benefit.
Now, on the one hand I find these numbers staggering, but on the other hand it makes perfect sense when you think it through. Skilled visa recipients arrive in their prime working age, immediately able to get to work and pay tax, where a child born in Australia relies on public investment in education and training for decades before they reach the workforce.''
He then concedes that Australian productivity growth has collapsed over the past few years just as we have embarked on the largest mass migration program in our national history. His solution here is to import more migrants to fix our productivity problems.
He simply refuses to engage with recent studies which found that just 12% of the overall Permanent Migration Program goes specifically to offshore independent skilled workers.
Finally he straight up lies and argues that Australia will not be able to build AUKUS nuclear submarines without mass migration, even though the cleared AUKUS workforce is limited to Australian citizens only.
What a catastrophic speech.
@TonyShepherd4@alasnich It is a sign of insecurity and weakness of facts when one resorts to judgement and meanness - lead with decency and facts is the first step to maturity and change - how old are you again?? I wouldnโt show a child this as an example of leadership, status or responsibility.
@jaduncan64@PrometheanActn To focus all on Trump is to miss the huge & unprecedented opprtunity for people to step into power & responsibility to expose corruption and take action - this can only be won through the people being willing to call out corruption and evil on all levels - home, work & community
@jaduncan64@PrometheanActn You are correct that corruption and evil needs to be swiftly and directly cut โ however given the enabling, irresponsibility and direct attack that has allowed these systems to embed, it requires people on all fronts and at all levels to call it out
@tglass@PrometheanActn There is always potential for people to wake up and for a realignment to occur -responding with what the people need to hear is needed regardless of what we think the outcome might be
@AdkinsMary@PrometheanActn The โwaking upโ is required on many fronts - there is lethargy and lack of purpose in the general public because, โpoliticsโ is supply and demand - we havenโt demanded the freedom and hence responsibility that Trump represents and embodies.. keep making it about the people
@AdkinsMary@PrometheanActn Perfectly said Mary - and backs up Barbaraโs point from earlier in the week about Trump being MAGA - not MAGA being independent in of itself. What is also here being exposed is the lethargy and lack of purpose in politics - in this case the Republican outplay.
@goddek Keep reflecting what is possible Simon in terms of awareness and responsibility - as until our thirst / addiction for dulling and irresponsibility is replaced by purpose and brotherhood nothing will change.
@ggreenwald Digging their heels further into arrogance, flaunting insistence and saying nothing of substance. For those who want to drink up those lies, so be it, for those who are awakening to truth and responsibility, go be it.
