What a privilege to convene these 2 panels & hear about the work of some amazing postgraduate researchers!
They were on the theme of 'Re/assessing approaches to sensitive research in religious studies' - grateful to @TheBASR for incorporating them in the conference!

@davidwarren52@HeatherJMajor1 Thank you for being honest. We need to talk about it and often training is self-selecting. But in the absence of institutional changes survivors are making themselves heard through writing, the arts, interviews and legal cases to make the necessary changes to keep people safe.
If I stand up for myself I’m bossy. I’m a good Priest until I wear my long hair down/paint my nails. Male friends champion women until an they push me under the bus to win an advantage. Older female clergy regularly patronise me despite my excellent qualifications and experience.
Very excited to be involved in this. My work with fellow survivors for my PhD in spiritual abuse in the CofE has reaffirmed my belief that the language we use really matters.
I’m not surprised that the Jay report seeks to remove references to spiritual abuse. CofE prefers to claim “a few rotten eggs” over admitting there are systemic issues in our church (racism, colonialism, patriarchy, etc). SA often subverts this convenient summary so it has to go.
I’m pro independent safeguarding but removing the language of spiritual abuse and limiting safeguarding to vulnerable adult and child protection obscures what many survivors, myself included, are asking for.
Excellent response from Lisa 👇🏻
I am excited to announce that I am now calling for participants for a second study, this time on Spiritual Abuse in the Church of England.
This is such an important and yet overlooked area.
Please retweet if you can.

@lucaslarner I really feel there is a vocation book in all these experiences. An edited volume of the other side of discernment. Many of the survivors of spiritual abuse who participated in my study found their abuse occurred in this process.
@henry_sister @MarkDRuss Love that! This is one of the things I was envisioning when I wrote the line in the CFP about Poly. As you say, permission is only partially offered if everyone plays by the old rules.
I really hope you submit an abstract!! ❤️
Can’t wait to work with @MarkDRuss on this! Please do consider putting in a paper, SST provides conference mentors and both Mark and I are happy to offer advice and answer questions especially if you’re new to all this. #QueerTheology#Theology#PostGraduate#SST24
'I, Lord' is back with 5 shows in London (13th-17th Feb). This amazing play explores spiritual abuse in the Church of England and comes with a free parallel children's show and closed captioning. Absolute must-see! @R_A_Theatre https://t.co/SzaMJ6gu54
