Hundreds of neighbors joined Crown Heights tenant Francis Roberts in freezing weather to demand that landlord Yehuda Gruenberg put an end to extreme harassment, which includes moving threatening characters into the building in an attempt to push Roberts out. @BrooklynLegal
This Thanksgiving I'm grateful to live in a community where neighbors support one another, alongside groups like @CHTenantUnion and @chcarecollectiv. https://t.co/lTVimAwpHq
@zhanglider @marcelaforny@MMitaynes We're going to miss you so much! Please keep fighting the good fight, and someday bring the kiwi insights back to NYC! ✊️❤️
Looks extremely likely that the Court of Appeals decision to throw out New York's Congressional maps and turn the process over to a Republican judge will make the difference between Democratic and Republican control of the House for the next two years.
@OmniCribber@PEWilliams_ No, it's really not. Notice how I was talking about *uniting* long term residents and newcomers through organizing? It's harder and more time-consuming than tweeting, but it's worth the effort.
🤔 What's the deal with... Affidavit ballots?
If you requested an absentee ballot, but show up to a polling place tomorrow to vote in person anyway, you won't be allowed to vote on the machine.
Instead, they'll give you an AFFIDAVIT BALLOT. 🧵 (1/12)
@mumblerant Try to get paxlovid to shorten your recovery time and reduce your risk of long covid! And you can get it delivered to you for free in NYC. https://t.co/L5XwrGVC6B
@unwashedMichael@PEWilliams_ I know twitter likes controversy, but the idea isn't that controversial... It's like a combo of solidarity, neighborliness, and self-awareness, and it's not impossible!
@unwashedMichael@PEWilliams_ Nope! Migration & immigration happen, but well-meaning people can recognize what advantages they have over others and strive to not crush those who have less; a SF techie has more than a refugee, so they're + likely to crush than be crushed, but they can work at reducing that!
@PEWilliams_ long term residents and new arrivals, honesty about each group's part of the struggle (racism and econ inequality are real), and the newbies have to be willing to listen and learn.
@PEWilliams_ Not to get too NYC-specific, but transplants have been a tool for landlords to chip away at the RS housing stock in working class neighborhoods, not just bc they make more $, but also bc they don't know the RS laws or the rights they sign away. It takes *organizing* to unite...
Today I watched a judge get upset b/c an attorney said during a bail application that the family had not been able to save enough money to buy their loved one’s freedom. She didn’t like that characterization of bail. Which leads me to ask, what do judges think bail is?
I don't know Richards, but It's a mistake to believe that most electeds are good & altruistic people. When history has shown us that these offices have been & continue to be replete with reprobates. We think the bar for public office is high, when in reality the bar is in hell.
