ONE HUNDRED MILLION TODAY!!

Already giving away north of $26 billion since 2022. That is not a round of applause. That is a line on a ledger a country this size does not casually add to.

This economy already posted two down quarters. The Bank of Canada said yesterday the tariff fight can cut fourth-quarter growth in half. Interest on the federal debt this year is $55.6 billion. That is more than Ottawa sends the provinces for health care. Housing still has a new slogan every season. Mills are sending people home. The customer that buys most of what we sell still does not have a deal.

Then the podium finds another cause and another transfer. You can believe Ukraine should be armed and still ask who is paying the carry on this side of the ocean. You can believe in aid and still notice the order of operations. Grocery bill first. Mortgage first. Then the photo op.

Enough renaming the failure. Enough flying to announce money we are borrowing. Close the file next door and stop treating the treasury like an open tab.

Yet yesterday we were treated to another “sweeping” new plan to get Canada building and we saw the media repeat the same spin.

We’ve heard this before. Carney already got sweeping new powers to fast-track projects. The results have not matched the rhetoric.

Andrew Scheer made those points to reporters yesterday. On camera. It was available. It was relevant. It was left out of evening news broadcasts.

Journalism is supposed to test government claims, not just transmit them.

How many grand announcements do we need before the lack of results becomes the headline?
