There are many ways to tackle affordability. There are fewer ways to effectively tackle climate change. And the federal carbon price and rebate leaves most better off, especially the poor. When they say axe the tax it’s not about affordability. It’s about axing climate action.
Apropos of nothing, as in maybe nobody cares, but removing the carbon tax + rebate is a very regressive action (ie. hurts the poor, helps richer households).
But hey, populism! 🥳
sigh…

Canada #1 for EV🥇🚗🔋
Don’t take it from me, take it from Bloomberg:
“Canada, whose continued growth across all areas of the supply chain & consistent performance in the metrics being assessed have given it an edge over competitors.”
@tferriss Long-time listener. This might be niche but I’d love for you to apply your considerable interviewing talents to topics like climate action. Instead of individual performance, focus on the strategies, tools and tactics to move us forward and fast on climate. Thanks for asking
Congrats to Canada for moving forward with its EV Availability Standard to help keep our air clean and help drivers save on fuel costs. 🚗 ⚡️
Since BC brought in the #ZEV Act in 2019, we’ve exceeded every target, even when critics said it would be impossible.
🇨🇦 announced its framework for oil & gas emissions cap today. Here’s a 🧵
TLDR: this policy is a big part of 🇨🇦's plan to achieve its 2030 target. It’s been designed to target emissions reductions in the sector, *not* decreases in production. https://t.co/KU6sgxGu1J
Axe the carbon tax, and you surely axe the climate action incentive "rebate." This means most families will wind up being worse off.
Solid analysis by @CBCFletch: https://t.co/aHQBngkPcv
We will only get to net zero if heavy-emitting sectors get the finance they need to cut emissions. I wrote about #GFANZ's and @bloombergdotorg's strategy to get capital flowing in the Economist 1/10

Despite claims of waning consumer interest, Canadian EV sales just broke another record in Q3 2023. Zero-emission vehicles now make up 13.3% of new car sales! 🚗⚡️💥
