Manipur📍
As the election results unfold across India, it's important to reflect on what this means for the Kuki people and our struggle for justice. Today's results highlight a critical juncture in our fight for recognition, autonomy, and safety. The violence that devastated Manipur, claiming 185 Kuki lives, displacing 41,425, and destroying over 200 villages and 360 churches, cannot be forgotten or ignored.
The Constitution of India guarantees dignity for all its citizens. Why has the government decided to ignore the dignity of the Kuki people? The new political leadership must prioritize addressing the ethnic cleansing and systemic violence perpetrated against our community. We call for accountability, an end to impunity for those responsible, and immediate steps toward establishing separate administration for Kuki tribals.
Our plea is for a government that acknowledges our pain, respects our rights, and works toward genuine peace and security for our people. We urge all elected officials to remember the atrocities committed against us and to commit to preventing such violence in the future. A long and lasting political settlement for the Kuki people, in the form of a Union Territory for Kukis by reorganizing the state of Manipur, is essential for our security and dignity.
The Kuki people will continue to stand strong, united, and resilient in our quest for justice. We hope this election marks a turning point where our voices are heard, our rights are upheld, and our community can finally find peace and safety.

Burning of ambulance: A year ago today 4 June 2023, 7-year-old Tonsing Hangshing, his mother and aunt, were on their way to RIMS hospital in an ambulance. A mob led by Meira Paibis blocked the vehicle and set fire to it, killing all three of them.
Will they get Justice @HMOIndia??

Finally received my copy of the Bharat Jodo Yatra book. I am happy I could contribute an essay in this as the Yatra was a transformative moment in India’s history and is very close to my heart.

On the tragic evening of June 4, 2023, the life of 7-year-old Tonsing Hangsing was cut short as an ambulance, under police escort, fell victim to a Meitei mob's assault and was engulfed in flames in Imphal West's Iroisemba.
Meena Hangsing, a Meitei married to a Kuki man, and Lydia Lourembam, a Meitei, were on a desperate journey to a hospital in Imphal with little Tonsing, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head from Meitei militants.
The heart-wrenching culmination saw all-three, including the innocent child, perish in the fiery inferno within the ambulance.
This devastating incident lays bare a painful truth - Meiteis, driven by animosity towards the Kuki community, are willing to perpetrate violence even against their own kin.
