Is DeFi dead? Unconference? Boat trip?
The @blocksplit experience.
"Crypto is dead, DeFi is dead." I've heard this more times lately than I want to admit. So during BlockSplit, I wanted to poke at it and debunk it with some genuinely experienced DeFi builders.
A venue in nature, by the sea, good vibes.
Honestly, the perfect conditions for this conversation.
We took it on together with @SaravanjaFilip from @UbiKhr, and @MakMuftic from @sprinter_ux.
What started as "yes, DeFi is dead" quickly turned into something much more interesting once we actually started unpacking it: a real discussion about what's improved, what's still broken, and where the space is heading.
The takeaway → DeFi is not dead. It has matured a lot since the last cycle. Yield farming opportunities. Self-repaying loans. Stablecoins. Tokenized equities. RWAs. Perp trading platforms that rival CEX UX. Builders who have been through a full cycle now shipping noticeably better products. We tend to forget how many of the previous cycle's problems have actually been solved.
My favorite line from the discussion, courtesy of @ox_shaman, deserves to be printed and put on a wall:
"Crypto cannot die, it can only fail to meet our expectations."
The unconference format wasn't something I had experienced before, but credit where it's due @Beler, it turned into a proper funconference. Great call on the venue too, I’m sure @lufawn8 would agree xD
And of course, @blocksplit always wraps with a boat trip. This year was no exception. Jumping, diving, dancing, swimming. Good people, good energy, no notes. Check out the recap video, see what you missed, and don't sleep on this next year.
🌊 @blocksplit delivered an UNforgettable UNconference!
The unconference is behind us, but the vibes will stick with us a bit longer.
The conference had the best venue, with the most amazing sea views.
A recap 🧵
@lex_node ERC-3643 became the holy grail of copy-paste "tokenization", and all it cost was negotiability.
A bit depressing. Then again, crypto product compliance has never met a template it didn't like.
@tokenterminal@gluk64 It’s pretty misleading to call something “enterprise-friendly” in advance just because it sells innovation theater as if that were something special.

@CarrascosaCris_ There are direct consequences: no local NCA designated for licensing or sanctions. While MiCA still applies in Poland, they simply opted out of enforcement within their territory.
@jaredrblake@Krak@Mastercard 1% cashback but a 4% card-deposit fee in the EEA? Is there a catch? e.g. steering users toward crypto deposits and penalising card top-ups? only seen fees like that in e-gambling.
We are excited to welcome @SaravanjaFilip, Co-Founder of Pazar, to Cosmoverse 2025.
Before joining the private sector, Filip spent nearly a decade at Croatia’s Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA), where he launched and led the country’s first regulatory innovation hub - helping bridge startups, DeFi projects, and financial watchdogs during a critical period of fintech growth and crypto emergence. He also represented HANFA on ESMA Standing Committees covering capital markets and digital finance, and served as a national expert in EU Council negotiations on MiCA and the DLT Pilot regime.
Today, Filip remains at the intersection of Web3, policy, and real-world adoption: building infrastructure at Pazar, a platform focused on DeFi-native OTC and real-world assets, and supporting regulatory strategy at Mercuryo. He was recently appointed Chairman of UBiK, Croatia’s blockchain industry association.
His presence at #Cosmoverse25 brings one of the region’s most experienced voices on regulation, compliance, and decentralized finance - offering critical insight into how crypto can scale within evolving regulatory frameworks.
@adamscochran Maybe the whole setup includes a kickback to the key people in the fund who green-lit this? Maybe I’m naive, but it sure smells that way at first glance.
@cz_binance@Aster_DEX Who sees these “hidden” orders? In TradFi & CEXs, basically everyone with backend access; infra, first line, second line… maybe even the janitor. Is there any setup where “hidden” means only the placer knows it exists - not just “hidden from retail”?
Wrong take. The future of finance clearly lies in retail CBDCs plugged into ESG projects and fully approved by your friendly neighborhood centralized bureaucracy. 🫡
Stablecoins working at scale significantly accelerates crypto as the future of the financial system. All financial services will need to be (re)built for this ecosystem. This is a once in a generation platform shift. The major pillars of the future of finance are up for grabs.
@bridge__harris It's especially strange that there still isn’t a flood of this already, considering that most of the debt instruments can, at least within the EU, be issued without issues natively on a permissionless chain.
