@TheLiarGal@Veritox223 Well actually there *was* a fire emblem where people like this made a fire emblem with the philosophy that losing any units is a full-on loss condition. It was called Radiant Dawn, and its perhaps the most polarizing FE in history gameplay-wise
@TerwillikerInst That fact only helps the Dalton movies. Much better focus on Bond as a character. Him being so single-mindedly focused on revenge in Liscence to Kill to the point of not caring about his usual frivilities is what makes that one one so good
@bornposting Yeah im not surprised this is the closest one so far. golden gun is perfectly fine, while you only live twice is mostly pretty good except for being really boring for 20 min when theyre on the island before he infiltrates the spectre base. And you know, that other thing..
@denpahimejoshi@buffyspeak No they did the right approaches because recognizing the mechanics of the grift is more important than just pointing out someone is a grifter. Focusing on his intellectual dishonesty and how to spot it means the audience can better recognize it in the future.
@redrummarts I think youre just in different realms of YouTube because there's def a bunch of them that wear their influence on their sleeve. Especially in reviewspheres. Like you can see the RLM influence in your YMS or IHEs. And even nowadays you see the influence Schafrillas has on rankers
@ranmasaotome96@moh_shuvuu_ Annoying and full of themselves comes with the territory of being a pinko academic-adjacent. Most of the hippie student radicals in the 60s were really annoying and smug too and no one liked them. But the historical record still pretty objectively vindicated them in the end tho
@Slashycent No you are correct there, but there *is* value in displaying recognizing that nothing is above reapproach and that everything should be under constant critique. Thats the mantra of the 60s. Everyone should be humbled/put in their place for the art they enjoy, no matter what it is
@Slashycent Correct it does. If you think that its authoritarian to impose pinko academic lenses onto how we view art, youre not particularly different from the morons who called the hippie student radicals fascists because they were trying to impose new cultural values. You failed the 60s
@allowableman2 She-ra managed to do it in the 2010s, and entirely self-seriously too.
I think it sets a really good example for how best to do a modernization. Take the characters, world, and elements that work, and then tell your own story with them.
@brdmoedr She-ra basically played it straight & self-serious not even a decade ago and got great returns for it critically and commercially (or as best as you can as a streaming show).
Of course, that show 'plays it straight' in a completely different way, being a reimagining and all
@WillSinForTacos@FE_Red_Dragoon Oh yeah Sothis. Forgor.
Though now that im thinking on it, she's offset by Arval, and similarly Rhea and Monica are offset by Holst and Rodrigue. So I guess the difference must come from losing characters like Hanneman, Cyril, Alois, and Gilbert
@avispartan1@pannekook Did the 60s radicals not manage to do exactly that? Black Power, Queer Liberation, Radical Second-Wave, the hippie student movements all coalesced and worked towards a common vision. Even somewhat grouped together under Fred Hampton's Rainbow Coalition
@Slashycent Its cool that your conspiracy brain lines up almost perfectly with rightoid ideas that critical analysis and theory exists to demoralize people
Reconciling with art's imperfections and recognizing failures is how academic art analysis has been done since the days of the hippies
@Slashycent@CosmonautMarcus Dooku isnt the Blofeld in this equation. Palpatine is.
Dooku's role in the film is much more akin to Number 3 or Dr No. Jango should theoretically be the henchman who employs the tools, like the Geologist hired by Dr No in the first Bond. There's no equivalent to zam in Bond
@Slashycent@CosmonautMarcus Bond chains arent this convoluted. Actually watch the old movies: Blofeld will send one of his numbrd agents on a mission, and then a numbered agent will get a big blonde guy to do the mission. But big guy doesn't then subcontract out again. Jango to Wessel is stupidly convoluted
@bornposting Im just a rando who got this on my For You page so I hope its okay to participate
OHMSS is my fave personally but thats a popular choice so can i nominate Quantum since its my second fave?
@brookstweetz It has some potential. I saw Chainsawman in screenX on my second viewing and the secondary screens turned on as the rainstorm cleared. Really enhanced the whole idea of his world being opened up by meeting her. Genuinely one of my fave cinema moments ever
@wrong__country@hotsnakelady No not Byleth. Silent protags inherently are character vaccums. It doesnt work in favor of the character in Persona and it doesnt work in 3H.
Its not revisionism to say Byleth being a silent protag was a bad choice. People who like the game (me included) have said it since 2019
@N7aClGamer@bornposting There's this great Matt Lynch review for it on letterboxd where he calls it "a fever dream ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE sequel you never got" and i couldnt agree more with that assessment. His revenge journey in Quantum after losing vespa is what i wanted out of Diamonds.
