Apart from bringing a mutilated body in Turbat civil hospital today, all the ways to the city have been blocked just because they want to make some outside-Balochistan-based YouTubers visit the city and record their vlogs and then say, “Turbat was very peaceful and beautiful.”

When the Pakistani state atrocities and crackdown on peaceful Baloch political workers were on peak, everyone was being targeted, he didn’t lose his strength neither he stepped back. He stood among the students and continued his peaceful political struggle for the oppressed Baloch nation.
He, like other activists of BSO Azad, was seen as threat against the colonial rule of the barbaric Pakistani state. After detaining for ten days, his mutilated dead body was dumped in Ganjadori, Mastung on August 18, 2011 by intelligence services of Pakistani state. His body was bearing severe signs of torture.
Recognising his national responsibility he joined the national struggle when he was pursuing his medical degree. BSO Azad pays richest tribute to its fallen comrade and reminds the Baloch youth to remember the sacrifices of our fallen comrades who struggled against the Pakistani colonialism over Balochistan till their last breath. Sammi Deen Baloch, The Central Member of BYC, has appealed to families of victims of enforced disappearances to raise their voices on 30 August, the International Day of the Disappeared.
Highlighting the case of Nazar Marri, a Baloch youth, student and BYC member who has completed one year in enforced disappearance, Sami questioned the continued silence over his whereabouts and condition. The Commission has disposed of his case, claiming that his brother was responsible, while his family remains unaware of any such development.
He also highlighted how families face closed doors: cases are not properly registered, FIRs are denied, and hundreds of cases are disposed of without satisfactory answers.
When even the Commission fails to provide justice, where should families go?
On 30 August, BYC will launch a media campaign to highlight enforced disappearances in Balochistan. Sami has urged victim families to record and share their stories and called on everyone to raise their voices, highlight these cases, and bring them before the world.
Baloch Women Forum unequivocally condemns the enforced disappearance of 20-year-old Safia Baloch, who was forcibly disappeared from Quetta by security forces in the early hours of 23 August 2026. The abduction of a young woman and the deliberate concealment of her whereabouts constitute a grave violation of her fundamental rights and a direct assault on the rule of law. Enforced disappearance cannot be permitted to become a normalized instrument of repression.
Safia’s disappearance has placed her family in unbearable uncertainty while denying her the most basic legal protections. Disappearing a woman without judicial oversight, disclosing her whereabouts or providing her family with access constitutes an egregious abuse of power and a grave violation of fundamental rights. Baloch Women Forum rejects the use of abduction, arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance as tools of intimidation and political control. No authority is above the law, and no woman can simply be erased from public and legal protection.
We demand the immediate and unconditional disclosure of Safia Baloch’s whereabouts, guarantees for her safety and unrestricted access for her family. If authorities claim any lawful grounds for holding her, she must be brought immediately before an independent and competent court and afforded full due process. Otherwise, she must be released without delay. Safia Baloch must not be disappeared into silence. Her family has the right to know the truth and the international community must not allow the normalization of the abduction of Baloch women.

Every disappeared person represents far more than one broken life. Behind every enforced disappearance is a child growing up without a parent, a mother living with fear and uncertainty, siblings whose futures are shattered, and an entire family losing faith in justice.

Altaf Hussain, known for his intrepidity and resilience, was born on 25 January 1975 in the house of Waja Khuda Buksh in Buleda, a town of Balochistan. He completed his matriculation at Sulo High School, Buleda, and later did his intermediate from Atta Shad Degree College, Kech. He further continued his bachelor of arts degree in the same college. The young man witnessed the upheavals and chaotic conditions of his nation. He joined the student politics during his intermediate time on the plate-form of the Baloch Student Organisation Azad. During his student life he became active in organising and mobilising the Baloch youth and making them aware and join the national liberation movement. As a member to help his nation and be the voice of the voiceless, he played a vital role in the Kech region.
After student politics he joined the mass politics and became member of Baloch National Movement. He started mobilising the Baloch masses on the surface by campaigning for the independence of Balochistan. Throughout his journey, he faced a lot of hardships and hurdles but he never gave up. In fact, he stood firm and remained loyal to what he had vowed. No matter how long or short his endeavours lasted, he was a glimmer of hope, a blossom in the garden of his motherland, a beacon in the darkness and a spirit that stood at its peak.
Some lives are measured by the number of years they are given; others are measured by the people they awaken, the voices they bring together and the courage they leave behind. The political life of Martyr Altaf Hussain belongs to the latter. His was not a political life confined to offices, formal meetings or written statements, but rather a politics of the streets, of gatherings, of conversations and above all of masses. Altaf Hussain entered political life at a time when the political atmosphere of Balochistan was filled with uncertainty, fear and unanswered questions. Instead of turning away from these realities he moved closer to them. He sought to understand the concerns of his people and more importantly to make those concerns heard. For him politics was not simply about holding a position, but it was about standing among people and becoming part of their collective struggle. His association with the Baloch Student Organisation Azad became an important part of this journey. He actively participated in student and political activities and worked to create political awareness among young people. He understood that youth are not merely the future of a society, they are also its conscience in the present. Through meetings, awareness programmes, public gatherings, discussions and organisational activities he encouraged young people to look beyond their individual lives and recognise the larger political realities surrounding them. But perhaps the most human aspect of his politics was his closeness to ordinary people. He did not believe that political mobilisation could be achieved from a distance. He went to people, sat among them, listened to them, spoke with them and encouraged them to participate. He helped organise programmes and gatherings where people could come together, share their concerns, remember those who had been lost and speak about the circumstances of their society. There is something deeply philosophical about such a life. A person becomes a political activist not merely when he speaks about politics but when the suffering and questions of his people become impossible for him to ignore.
