@amworld_inves That gap is the point. A record built by two sectors is weight, not a new mix. Extra growth stays extra. A record does not change the core.
π Nasdaq hit a record.
The S&P 500 sat just behind.
The largest names led.
That is weight β not a new mix.
Extra growth stays extra.
A record does not promote it into the core.

@ValueSeeker_ Equal-weight is a real strategy, not the default core. It changes the job: more mid-size names, more rebalancing. Keep: 500 names are not 500 equal votes. I keep cap-weight as the engine.
@StockStormX That flip is the weight talking. A few large names move the cap-weighted list more than the other 490. Same 500 companies. Not 500 equal votes.
@NewHarborCap Yes β it is a different risk, not a cleaner version of the same fund. Keep: 500 names are not 500 equal votes. Cap-weight is the core job. Equal-weight is extra.
π The S&P 500 is 500 companies.
They do not have the same weight.
The largest names move the list more.
That is why one fund can run the core.
Equal-weight is a different job.
It does not replace that core.

π The S&P 500 page is a quote.
It is not the portfolio.
You cannot copy an index number.
You copy funds that hold the list.

@joejossy_12 This is the point people miss. β500 namesβ is the attendance list. The top weights still hold the microphone. That is why I treat Nasdaq-100 as extra growth, not as a second core.
@Wealth_ese1 Useful split. One extra rule I use: the S&P 500 fund is the engine. Nasdaq-100 stays smaller. A theme fund only stays if I can say its job in one sentence.
@icekem_soso Same structure I use: S&P 500 as the core, Nasdaq-100 as a smaller growth sleeve. Anything more aggressive stays tiny or stays out. A loud week does not promote an extra fund.
The S&P 500 core runs the portfolio.
Extra funds stay extra.
Core = the engine.
Extra = one job, small size.
If I cannot say the job in one sentence, it does not belong.

π A loud week on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 is the temperature.
It is not a new plan.
I do not rebuild an exchange-traded fund core on a Friday.
